So say I do this... how much will it run me?
Some of you may have seen my 88 CRX Si thread (about whether or not to buy it). I'm going to go look at it sometime this week, proly friday. I would like to keep TOTAL cost under 5g for this car... here is what I want to do...
proly wont pay more than 1200 for the car itself.... I would like to drop a b16a1 (i think its a1, whichever is in 00 si coupe) and tranny combo in it. How much does something like that run?

what up... just picked up my b16a swap paid $1400.00... i used to sell them for a grand a couple of years back.... but the price will go up as u start replacing parts of course, water pump, t belt, i also replace the rear main seal, cam and crank seals, reman cluch kit, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, wires, and of course u need the mounts.... under 5 g's i say yes deffinetly....
you can do it for under five grand pretty easily. ive only got abot 3500 total in my car and swap with hasport motor mounts, new clutch, etc. etc. good luck
and fyi its teh b16a2 in the 99-00 em1
have a good one, and have fun.

honestly bro, i dont know if you know too much about b16's but they're just about as shity as going stock if your talking about stock b16 and stock d16. yeah they have alot more power as in like maybe 50, but i've seen some guys dyno more torque in d series w/ simple bolt ons, compared to a stock b16. now dont get me wrong the b16 is wat made honda known for they're beasty name. but if you're planning on doing a stock b16, i say just keep it stock... . but see here is where the story changes, unless you're going to build a b16, they're pretty much worth less.... but being built, i've seen some very impressive numbers.... i can say they are one hell of a beast when it comes to being built.... so here is the question, are you planning to do a stock b16 swap w/ pretty much basic bolt ons, as in headers, clutch kit, fly wheel, exhaust, intake and thats it ?? then for the money as in 1500 or so, i would go w/ a b20 vtec. block will cost you any where from 300-600 and a nice head vtec will go for about 500. add another 500 and slap in a b16 tranny for shorter gears, around 1500 and you have your self a low 13 second high 12 car with good tuning... of course you have to consider gaskets and all....for either set up.. just an option i would go rather the stock b16 w/ bolt ons, compared to a b20 vtec for just about the same amount of money.... your choice though... good luck !!

Why turn this into B vs D? I have driven many of both w/ and without boltons on each and let me tell you - they are completely different motors.
Plus, there might be motor/tranny issues that cause him to have to take the swap path.
Anyhow, to the OP:
To answer your question... you should easily be able to purchase the car and do the swap (yourself) for under the amount you mentioned. The wildcard will be how much you are paying for the swap. The B16a2 from the 99-00 Si is an OBD-2 swap with a hydro tranny that will require some special parts (hasport conversion hydro-to-cable, harness work, correct ecu, etc.) to work properly.
You will have to factor in all those additional parts so your budget is accurate, then add about 15% for unexpected stuff - something always comes up. You are looking at about 2400 - 2800$ plus shipping for a hydro B16 vs 1200-1600$ plus shipping for a bolt-up, OBD-0 cable B16. The latter is not as desirable for performance (reliability, durability in the tranny) but your pocketbook will appreicate it.

There is no tech in this post and it's not to hard to use our FAQs and searchs that are very well laid out with stuff like this in them.
Prices will varry an insane amount best we could do is giving going rates for some things.
If you arn't even willing to peek at a page or 2 on HT and want to be spoon fed, how can we asume you really are going to undertake a project car?
try the search key the faqs ebay and google.
This kind of stuff is unsat.

To be honest I usually do look around and try to read. I glanced at the massive list of things you had at the top, but this is a time sensitive matter and I don't have as much time as i would like balancing full time work and school and trying to sleep while handling this.....
Aside from that, the person just called me and told me they are moving in a week and need to get rid of the car, he actually said they would take a substantially less amount of money for the car.. so i think im going to make an offer hah. You guys will be seeing me around here soon, posting all kinda dumb noob questions
