Have anyone had experience with all 3 LSD type??

Quaiffe LSD runs on gears similar to OEM type and are suppose to be smoother transition and claims to be no wear or plates to change.

ATS 1.5 way LSD has a D20 version that runs on 20 friction plates thus claim to be stronger bite and smoother transition compare to conventional plate LSD.

Kazz 1.5 way LSD is plate type like ATS but i believe they use 16 plates only.

I never used Quaiffe before but had used Kazz on my previous Mitsubishi colt race car and now i'm using the ATS D20 1.5 way LSD on my DC2.

Thinking of getting a new LSD for this year race season as i feel the ATS is not gripping enough now probably due to wear.

Please advise guys!

I have experience with Quaife and Quaife style differentials, KAAZ, OEM and welded differentials.

I'm a fan of the clutch-type, because it behaves more like a welded differential, and operates well even if one wheel is not loaded (important for rally).

Only real downside is expensive fluids and you do have wear/maintainance issues.

I've you're going to have the trans out every year or two as in most race cars, I'd don't think of the clutch types as having much of a disadvantage.

For a street car I'd go with a gear/quaife style differential. Set it and forget it.

I think you'll miss the clutch-style units if you switch.

That being said, if you're on a budget the OBX ones aren't a bad option. If you've got a grand budgeted, I'd go with the KAAZ or ATS.

I own a Kaaz and LOVE but the ATS is phenomenal and a better unit in comparison (plates, force, rebuildability, etc)

 

I am on the ATS D20 now. Have been using it for 2 year race use only but it seems that the locking is not as good as when its new. Thinking of buying a new set for 2007 race season and looking for options.

 

just have it rebuilt

its a clutch diff of course the clutches are going to wear in a race situation. im planning on having my Kaaz rebuilt this summer (2 years of abuse)

 

Yeah, just get it rebuilt. User Rodney on here does that, I believe, or you could just send it to ATS/Carbonetics.

 

I use the KAAZ because the deal I got on it was too good to refuse, and I love it but I agree, if you like the ATS, just have it rebuilt.

 

i know the quaifes are usually around $900. how do the ats and kazz units compare price wise? and any general pricing on having an ats or kazz rebuilt?

 

ONe thing to keep in mind, and some one else brought it up as well, a gear type will not work when one wheel is off the ground, so if you do a lot of curb hopping and such you could run into a problem.
