Either go back to stock, or get a new short shifter and a new exhaust or fix your exhaust. But get rid of that ebay pos before it breaks.
Are you dead set on getting a new short shifter? You don't even bring up the fiddle with it option or if you have tried.
Short shifters are a feel thing, as long as made well you'll be ok. Try driving a few cars with different shifters to see what you like.
Skunk2 Hurst are 2 of the most commonly used, I run hurst shifters on all my cars.

i actually like the stock gsr or itr shifter. i have the b&m edge shifter and it felt good with the d series motor. i thought it would feel the same with the b series linkage but it feels like ****. i have heard great things about the dual bend.
