Y5 to y8 Solenoid Differences?
So I have a y8 head, and a y5 vtec solenoid for it. I am just wondering since this is off of a vtec-e model, is it going to be robbing me of substantial horespower, or am I just retarded and should just keep that solenoid?
I don't think you're retarding for asking a legitimate question at all.
I believe they're the same solenoid. But you wouldn't have to worry about losing horsepower. It would either work correctly, or not work at all. So if the Y5 is installed on your motor and working correctly...I'd say you're in good shape.

The difference in the Y5 and Y8 is in the head and ECU among other things, but nothing related to the solenoid.
