Default Trailing Arm Bushing Replacement??????

Hey guys, has anybody had any luck replacing the bushing in the trailing arm? I have a 90 Civic sedan and the trailing arm bushings are shot. The cheapest I've been able to find new trailing arms is from the dealer for like $200+ each. The bushings are available but I'm not sure how much it would cost to have a place get the old ones out and new ones installed. Any advice/suggestions/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

My justification for saying this - it has been proven that the E.S. bushings don't allow for the Trailing arms to have the same range of motion as Honda designed, which can be dangerous at speed.

In place of that stupid polyurethane bushing, get the R.T.A. bushing as offered from the dealer (Part # 52385-S21-003). This bushing is the Mugen piece, so you can't go wrong. Here is an excellent example of how to remove and replace the bushing -
Wes Van's R.T.A Bushing removal

If you don't have the time to take apart your whole rear suspension or a press to remove the bushings here is the tool you'll need to quickly remove the bushing from the trailing arm -
Rear Trailing Arm Bushing Extractor Tool

What a refreshing voice of reason and knowledge in this jungle of brand name hype and blind loyalty. Thank-you.

I bought OEM Honda replacement bushings for $28/each online... Used a local shop to press out the old in with the new.

Thanks guys for the suggestions! Wow! That tool is expensive! Especially when you'd prolly only use it once. Does anybody have one they'd rent me? I'd pay the shipping obviously both ways plus a little for the use!

well since you were considering spending $400 to replace both trailing arms $145+$60= less than what you would have spent on the trailing arms by themselves. just sell the tool after you use it and I also recommend the honda bushing as well

Good point! I may have to do that depending on whether or not I can get the dealer to do it free or what it is going to cost me to have it done by a place that has a press. I think I'd have a really hard time selling that tool though if I bought it.

+100 OEM Bushings (or Mugen or whatever the hell, I think they are the same part these days).

Get them here: http://www.magauto.com. Only $27 a bushing! I pressed them in with my $100 ghetto Harbor Freight shop press no problem.

I am also a believer that the Poly RTA bushings don't let that trailing arm move properly. It's a rather complicated motion, and that's why the stock bushings are shaped so weird. They flex around a lot.
