K20A2 CTR build - Suggestions wanted
First of all, id just like to exuse myself for any lack of technical knowhow. Not all english technical terms are as easily translated into norwegian and the other way around, also this is my first car and my first attempts at tuning. I try to do as much as i can myself but i know where my limits are and use help when necessary. Sadly the K-series scene is somewhat lacking overe here, only around 5-7 K20 cars in total spread acorss the country, so most of my assistance will be from B-series builders.
Secondly this is what ive allready bought and installed, only boltons atm but ive tried to buy parts that im certain will last me a while, even though there might be stuff that would be cheaper and just as good:
- ESMM
- Ingalls torque dampener (mostly for trackdays)
- Toda Race header
- Fujitsubo RM-01A catback
- Hondata K-pro
- Mugen airintake box with filter
Now i want to follow it up after driving around with this setup for about a year. I thought the natural step would be to upgrade the cams, valve springs, intake header and such. But thats just how far ive gotten by reading trough some projects and trying to understand the workings of it all. So now i guess i hope for some suggestions on what types, what else besides this i need to get, gaskets and such perhaps?
Ive heard alot about Toda and IPS, and even though i want as much performance as i can get for my money, durability and strenght comes first. Especially since im no mechanic myself and dont want to have my car in a workshop several times a year if not by choice.
Before anyone starts suggesting superchargers and turbos, this is not a real option over here. The fines are huge if you get caught with one of these and its much easier for the cops to not notice a N/A setup than a forced induction setup.
Finally im also concidering getting a LSD (either a Quaife or a Honda DC5R/EP3R) and a Toda lightened flywheel and possibly a better clutch since i have to open the whole thing anyway. I use this car to and from my job and its my only one so i dont want a race clutch or anything, a compromise between race and street i guess.
If anyone know of projects worth taking a look at or anything that resembles what i could be looking for feel free to give me a link or two. Its hard to know whos building quality and whos full of bs nowadays, especially when i have to take others word for it. Also people who have bought something themselves hesitate to critisize their own setup.

You have a sound foundation for making power with the K-Pro and the Toda header. IPS K2 cams and valve train would compliment your setup nicely without sacrificing reliability. Lots of good information here:

Thanks, yea ive tried my best to make a solid foundation for further modifications. So far the only two cam providers that i have not seen any real criticism towards (perhaps price perhaps) is Toda and IPS. But the IPS cams seem harder to aquire, some rumors about bankrupcy and such, well i guess i just have to keep on searching. No luck searching on google either it seems.
What about intake manifold, i see someone buy the the one from K20A while others use the one from K24A2.

The RBC intake manifold works well. IPS cams are still available, IPS is just no longer dealing directly with the public.
yes go with euro accord IM (RBC) .... I am running toda 8.2 flywheel & exedy stg2 cermetallic clutch as well
very nice & still streetable - although I am having issues with newly installed 70mm TB - getting idle & response just right
for IPS products contact "k20ahondas" on k20a.org he is IPS dealer

Sounds good, the RBC is about 200USD it seems, not bad, i see that IPS themselves has produced a IM, whats the diference? Yup, the Toda flywheel is my main choice, ill look into the exedy clutch, thanks for the tip, sounds exactly like what im looking for.
The throttlebody on my K20A2 is 62mm or so aint that correct? Should i get a bigger one or get it ported? Is there much to gain by this?
Also i see that IPS seem to recomending Eibach valvesprings, any comments on this? Toda makes their own springs so i guess they would fit perfectly if i chose those cams.
Ill contact him and check it out, thanks again.

About $600 and there's a waiting list.

So if ive found a well known shop which is trustworthy that offers them for 200USD that would be a bargain i guess. 270 with Hondata manifold gasket, Vacuum hose and TB to IM gaskets.
Or did you perhaps mean that the IPS one costs 600? Got a little confused here.

The truth about the IPS manifold is that when preorders where taken, people paid $800 but that is not going to be the price when it becomes available. It is going to be more, but it is not going to be available for sale anytime soon, so you should go with the RBC manifold and Karcepts.com adapter until something better comes out. On certain motors, the RBC made 20whp up top which is amazing gains just with the honda OEM manifold.
