My F20B wont Rev above 5000RPM in Park. (Vtec problem maybe?)
Hey,
I'm not sure if this is normal for VTEC's but when I rev my engine (I let it warm up first) up it wont go past 5000RPM. It just bounces as if its redlining. When I am driving my car its fine.
I'm sure I would be able to redline it. It just seems a little suspicious that 5000RPM is also the kick-in for VTEC. I'm wondering if this could indicate a problem with my engine. I know it wont engage VTEC unless its warm, moving, and got enough oil, but yeah, its kind of suspicious. I have also noticed that when accelerating over 5000RPM I cant hear a pop or feel an increase in power like others say they do. Its a Tip-Tronic tranny so maybe its all being smoothed out in the Automagic?
I recently did a timing belt change on the engine, all went well and everything lined up fine. I did an oil change aswell, I admit I left it a little late (around 12,000KM since its last one) but the oil wasn't terribly dark, it still had a little caramel colour to it.
Just wondering what you guys think. Could it be something like Oil Pressure switch, VTEC solenoid etc. I dont get any cel lights?
P.S. I admit one thing I didnt do is use the 6x100mm bolt to line up the Balance shaft thing. I just turned it until the mark lined up with the mark on the engine body. Could that be it?

vtec won't engage unless your going over 18mph. when vtec doesn't engage the ecu limits the rpms.
you probably have a little bit more vibration because of the balancer shaft or maybe you just got lucky.

This is correct. Listen to the man. It's supposed to do that...

yeah thats what my F23 does, when i put in neutral to rev at people at red lights, it will do "the rev bounce" i think it sounds cool, but thats it, it wastes gas, and it doesnt engage VTEC either in neutral so theres not much of a point other than to rev at ppl so theyll race and/or get busted/pissed/owned
yeah you did get lucky with that balancer thing though, btw, dont rev in park, rev in neutral if you have to, and never ever do neutral bombs, really. anything thats not normal human driving is bad (somehow)
