i just did this to my car a few days ago...
theres a small zip tie holding the boot to the lower part of the stock ****, ull have to cut that (at least i did) then everything unscrews with ease

i recommend putting a new zip tie back on just to keep the boot looking nice

my boot has a chrome ring that clips in to the bottom of the ****.

i finally got the **** to unscrew, but it was VERY hard.

i literally had to put all my strength in to it.

but i have nothing to replace it, so i just screwed it back on

What are you going to replace it with?

I had at one time thought about a leather shift ****, but never felt like paying $40 or $50 for one so I've just stayed with the OEM rubber one.
