Default hybrid shifter woes

ok, since i did my swap..a B16 into my 89 si hatch..i've been having shifter problems. when i did the swap i used hasport mounts and hasport linkage. i put a DC shifter in, and the shift pattern was very quirky, i had to shift down at an angle to get from 1st to 2nd, had to shift at an angle away to get from 3rd to 4th, and had to put the car in 5th and slam it down to get it into reverse. this past weekend i put the stock shifter back in, and although it is still quirky, it's a lot easier to shift. so i'm thinking the shift mechanism inside the tranny might be bent??? anyone have any ideas on this one?? thanks for any help.

I am not sure about the shaft being bent it would be a lot harder to shift if so. Maybe it is just the linkage set up you have
I have HCP linkage and it is kinda wierd too but i have got use to it

Mine's not. But the shifter is almost in the dash when it's in 3rd, it's so far forward.

hey SiRReal Racer right?

i haven't tried my SiR linkage yet cuz i tried bending it out, but i don't think it's really worth trying to salvage. when i took the DC shifter out, the stock shifter is a lot better but still not really stock feeling.

I used the stock SiR linkage. shifts are a little rough, but got better when I put my short shifter (neuspeed) in. I'm pretty happy with it now, but 5th is a pain sometimes (not a big deal).

I have the hasport linkage and a no-name short shifter The shift pattern is not awkward. The only thing different is that it is positioned a little farther back. It took some getting used to but now it is fine and easy to shift.

I'm using a copied HCP adjustable **** linkage
It sucks, But from what I 've heard, the other kits aren't any better.
I wanted to try an ITR, but i ran outta time.
From what I heard, these are the best.

I used the adj. HCP linkage when I did my swap. At first I used the shifter from the old engine and the top gears would hit the dash, as well as 5th hitting the passenger's knee. I purchased several different shifters (ITR, SI) and found the Del Sol shifter was shorter and bent a little back and towards the driver. With that shifter in now, the position is perfectly stock, just a little lower.
