manual tranny swap
ok guys ive been working on this swap for awhile now i have the manual tranny into the engine bay and the splines are aligned into the clutch and into the engine. The problem is i have about 1/2 inch left for the tranny to meet up with the block and it wont go in any farther. I dont know what the hell i could be doing wrong, nothing is in the way... Anybody have suggestions? thanks
that last half inch is a pita. if your sure nothing is in the way and everything is lined up correctly then you will have to push alot to get it in. assuming eveything about the trans is correct.
well yea its a manual trans off of a 96 lude with a h23 and im trying to put it on my h23. Im thinking maybe the dowel pins are off ever so slightly even though ive been moving them around and they appear to be in the right position. ai even had a small pry bar trying to use it as a lever to get it on...Any more suggestions?
i have done about 4 tranny swaps and from those experiences I can say that the biggest pain in the *** was easily getting the damn tranny back on
the motor.
A few things I have learned are that:
A Transmission jack makes it much easier. If you cant get one u can make a makeshift hoist with a solid piece of steal pipe and a strap. Place the bar across the engine bay in a vertical way from bumper to firewall. Then use the strap to hook on to the tranny and have someone push it up from underneath while u tighten the strap. Once its at the desired level to match the engine tie it. It will hold the tranny up making it much easier to get it in.
Also you just have to manhandle it. Just ******* push it in. Shake it a little. Once you are POSITIVE its at least stabbed you can use the bolts that bolt the tranny to block to pull the tranny in. Screw them in and tighten them a few turns each in a pattern similar as u would the flywheel.
