Default Alternative Nav For MY 06 SI

Hey guys I really wanted Nav on my 06 civic si but couldn't find one at the time.
I need some help finding an after market solution that will be comparable to the oem unit. I don't want a flip up unit but just like oem look. I also don't want to upgrade any of the speakers and want to be able to use the controls on the wheel. Is the stock oem unit touch screen? If so I would like that feature on the new unit. Any help is appreciated in advance! Thanks

Pioneer AVICZ1. It's a double din navigation and will look sleek as hell in your civic. It's got a 30gig hard drive to so you can actually store a ton of music in it as well. Navigation is built in so there's no CD required when u want to use it. The unit goes for a bout 2 grand though so it's pretty expensive but it's one of the best ones out there.

Thanks Rico, What do you think of the Alpine IVA-W200. Also do you know what size I will need to work with oem dash?

The AVICZ1 is a 7" wide screen which I believe is the largest double din screen they make and it will fit in the dash just fine. They make a dash kit for the 06-07 civics but they are expensive as they replace the entire dash trim where the radio is.

The Alpine IVAW200 is a nice double din, but it doesn't come with navigation built in. You have to buy it separately and it's almost $1700 on top of the price of the double din.

The AVICZ1 is the better buy and it has a truck load of features including bluetooth compatibility.

AVIC D3 comes out in March. Wait for it. **** is hotness. The best part, MSRP is only $1000. Street price should come out to about $850-900. That would make it the most competitive unit currently on the market.

Why not just get a OEM unit installed by your Honda dealer? The Honda nav systems seem to be pretty decent.

Ok I think I will wait for that new Pioneer to come out in March. Video ipod support would be sweet. As far as a getting an oem system installed. I don't think any dealers do this.

I thought anything could get done for a price. That pioneer unit looks pretty nice so that might be a good option to wait for. Good luck.

Well if one doesn't have money to spend a nav system should not even be a consideration. Besides I don't have knowledge of cost on an oem unit, I am merely making a suggestion.

New Pioneer AVIC-D3 Unveiled

Pioneer AVIC-D3
The new AVIC-D3 is Pioneer's latest phase in the evolution of their popular AVIC in-dash navigation systems.

Key features include: XM NavTraffic integration, voice prompting, telephone number search, and a bunch of entertainment features like support for both XM and Sirius Satellite Radio, CD/DVD playback, iPod Direct, iPod video support and expanded Bluetooth capabilities including wireless audio streaming.

The AVIC-D3 fits into a standards double-din dash opening, and rocks a beautiful 6.1 inch display with eight built-in illumination colors, and the option to choose from 32,000 other color variations (allowing the unit to match pretty much any vehicle on the road).

Pioneer's AVIC-D3 provides mapping and routes for the entire United States and Canada, with detailed mapping and detailed lane information in 50 cities. Included in the system are about 12 million points of interest like ATMs, gas stations, hotels and restaurants, which can be overlaid directly onto the map. The system utilizes 59 brand icons for quick identification of familiar POIs.

With the optional traffic tuner, the GEX-P10XMT, and a XM NavTraffic subscription, you can receive real-time alert of current traffic incidents and traffic flow conditions, by overlaying the information onto the map screen with flashing lines and icons, and providing an alternative route around the obstruction.

XM and Sirius Satellite Radio are both available options in the AVIC-D3, and the front-panel mounted mini-jack A/V input allows the addition to other attached components such as camcorders, gaming devices or music players.

The Pioneer AVIC-D3 will MSRP for $1000, and is expected to be available in March.

No. Not unless it is installed improperly and causes some sort of short or damage.

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 660 and its great. Very highly rated. Portable. It comes with a suction cup mount and an adhesive disk. I put the disk on the flat area to the right of the speedo and the Nav is perfectly located for easy touch screen, GPS antenna and visibility while not blocking my view out or of any of the instruments. Great support on the Garmin site. MP3 player. Bluetooth. I have it wired up to the Aux input of the stereo on my Si. The speakerphone is absolutely top notch. It picked up my whole address book from my phone (Motorola 360) and now can dial any number and take me to the address.

Traffic Nav, FM transmitter if you don't want to wire to your Aux input. Custom POIs (points of interest) Language translator. Currency converter. Fodors travel guide. USB connection to your PC. SD card slot (I put a 2GB card with MP3s on it and it reads them seamlessly)

I think a portable is a better way to go then in-dash. It will actually work hand-held when I am walking around or in my other car.

I can't say enough good things about this unit!

Regards,
Alan

Guys with the AVIC D3 does the installer have to run that NAVI antenna to the top of your car? Also if i get the AVIC D3 i still want to have my steering wheel controls work. How much would the install probably cost to have the AVIC D3 put into a non nav Si with steering wheel controls and the ipod plug in wire?????? roughly?

Good questions, since it's not until March we might have to wait for those answers.
