Default DOWNSHIFTING

i have a problem with my 5 speed h22 prelude downshifting into only 2nd gear.
it upshifts from 1st too 2nd just fine. then when i want too downshift from any other gear back into 2nd it wont go in,,,it doesnt grind it just wont go in? at dead stops it will sometimes go into 2nd and sometimes wont, it always allows me too upshift tough.

i did notice a pin worn on the 2nd gear linkage at the trans underhood, but the cable still wont come off the shift rod, the pin is worn but not destroyed. could this be my problem? any help is appriciated

I dont think the worn pin is the source of your problem. Have you tried matching the trans. with engine rpms when downshifting?

hahaha its called rev matching. your transmission is saving its life from you destroying it. When you want to down shift you have to give it some gas so the revs go up so it can have a smooth transition when you downshift. When you down shift your rpms go WAY up and you have to match that with the revs so that its not such a jump. When you get good at it you will not feel the shift point.

So like i said your transmission is trying to survive while you try to kill it

The car only stops you from putting it in 1st and reverse while moving, not any other gear, hence people throwing rods/smashing valves etc, when they accidently pull 3rd to 4th instead of 3rd to 4th.

To the op, there is probably something wrong with your tranny.

You most likely have a worn 2nd gear blocker ring in your syncro.

with the use of modern day synchronizers you dont need to rev match

something is fucked up with your trans.

also on the rev matching it will rev match it's self into 2nd gear. but if i put the clutch in it will not go into gear even when rev matching.

i belive it could be a problem w the trans but it seems odd to me that it will allow an upshift too 2nd just fine no grinding, it is a smooth shift, but wont downshift

Its still possible to be a blocker ring it is harder for a blocker ring to speed up the shaft then slow it down.

i would try adjusting the engaugment point of the clutch first.
set the enguagement point towards the top.

after i adjusted mine my shifts felt better.
and before i would hae to be stoped to put it in first now i can but it in 1st going 25 if i wanted
