Default :Repairing Shift ****

What happened: I have the B&M Pro Edge shifter. Originally I had a Sparco **** on there but didn't like it that much so I put the stock **** back on there. I couldn't get the sparco **** off easily so I had to chew up the threads on the shifter to get it off. Now the stock **** can rotate a little so at around 90mph it'll vibrate and it's just annoying.

My Thought: Can I fill the stock **** with JB Weld (this would be the only bit of JB Weld on the car, and it's hard to bring myself to using it haha), and then also put it on the threads of the shifter? I was thinking about doing that and when it hardens I would tab out the shifter that way there are threads of the right size on both the shifter and ****. Do you guys know of any other methods? Thanks

Take a dye and rethread the shifter.

if i was going to put anything on there instead of fixing the threads, i'd use locktite.

Yea that's what I was planning on doing. It's just the the threads on the stock **** I think are slightly chewed up because of the shifter's threads. Do you think filling it with JB Weld (to basically give myself a new beginning) would actually work on the ****? I didn't know if that would stick to the inside of the shifter or not.

judging by the vehicle stated in your signature, i would assume you are not too low on funds....so in my opinion instead of ghetto rigging it just pop for a new shifter and ****, and make sure you don't make the same mistake twice

yeah that's my vote, new shifter and ****, or at least use a die and re-thread the shifter.

Yea it is for the car in my signature, so I can't really say it's a budget build haha. I just didn't see any need to pull the shifter out and everything just for a slight vibration that only happens around 85-90. You make a good point though, maybe I'll just buy a new OEM **** and a new shifter.

Actually what I might do is order the new stuff so it's done right and then just try my idea out for the hell of it. If it works then I could make a simple write up or something since I'm probably not the only person in the world with that problem.

you're right, you aren't. the previous owner of the transmission i bought for my rs had an ebay short shifter installed. i don't know why but he cut it even shorter, so i have very little thread left... and it rattles like hell at certain rpms. tell me how it worked out when you're done.
