Default wheel weight saving question

A while back, i saw a post regarding actual weight saved when wheel weight is decreased...I think it was 7 pounds of actual weight saved with every 1 pound saved at the wheel

Can anyone verify this...im starting to think that changing rims is a good idea, especially since we have 15x6 instead of 15x6.5 or 15x7

There are gains, I don't beleive its 7:1 but it is higher than 1:1. Basically the more unsprung weight you can lose the happier your car will be. This is why some of the drag guys run smaller brakes etc.

every one (1) pound off the rotating mass = four (4) pounds off the static mass... at least that's what i remember.

Also, don't forget that if you take the weight off the tires, it will feel a lot better than taking it off at the center of the wheel.

I've heard that if you remove a pound of weight from your wheel, your acceleration will improve similar to if you had removed four pounds of weight from your car.

E.g., if you remove 6 lbs of weight from each rim, for a total weight savings of 24 lbs, your car's acceleration will be the same as if you removed 96 lbs from your interior.

I'm not sure if you can quantify handling and braking benefits the same way, but I know your handling will improve significantly if you get lighter rims. There was an article on this subject in a Sport Compact issue a long time ago (many years ago). Somebody might be able to dig it up for you.
