What is this? Deer Whistle? Spy Device?
So I was doing my oil change today and I noticed this black thing with a state farm insurance company logo on it sitting on my raditor core support. I've never seen this before, and I have even done an engine swap on this car, and scrubbed the engine bay when the thing was empty so its weird I've never spotted it. So curriosity got the best of me. I was thinking that maybe it was some kind of GPS tracking thing like lo-jack or something, so I take it out.
This is what I found.

I'm thinking deer whistle?
?

you are indeed correct my friend it is a deer whistle. the way it works is that the air travels through those little passages and creates a very high pitched noise that only dear can hear.

It probably is a deer whistle. If you drive fast and enough air is passing over it, it acts like a deer deterrent, kind of like those high pitched gopher repellants and all those sort of things.

It was on the base, right where the hole in the bumper it is.
There has been a few studies questioning their effectiveness and there conclusion was they really don't make a difference. My buddy had 2 on his CBR600, didn't stop him from mowing down bambi. Luckily some how he basically walked away unharmed, but totaled his bike

What hole? You mean it was on your metal bumper behind your bumper cover?
because that's not your core support

its what the radiator mounts to. It is defently the radiator core support. The metal bumper is much higher in the bumper (bumper is not visible when the bumper COVER covers it, hints the name)

Oh, it was all the way down there? Damn. What an odd place to put a deer whistle.
