Default Odd wiring issue about the alternator. Needing quick help.

Well this ones freaking got me spinning. I was driving home from a friends house, and my speedo died all of a sudden. I didn't pay any attention, figure my cable popped out as my clip is missing (i know, I should have one but whatever). Well about 30 kms later, i started smelling something like my clutch. I thought to myself that maybe I unintentionally rode it or something. Well I was being extra careful and everytime I accelerated from a stop the smell came in. Well once I get to my house I go and wiggle my cable to make sure my speedo comes back to life, and behold my god damn wire from the alternator was glowing red, and the wire was melted. It's the one with the bolt going thru.

90 Civic Cx
B18A1 swap
Brand spanking new alternator, MAYBE 3000kms on it. Alternator has 3 year warranty, getting replaced this weekend as a what if it's this situation.
OBD1 swap (shouldn't matter, never had issues)
B18 Swap has about 1000-1500kms on it. Not an issue till now, battery light never came on.

Can someone shed some light on this? The battery light never came on. The alternator I've noticed has been making a whine noise at higher RPMS, thought the belt was too tight, but if it's melting wires???

maybe the voltage regualtor in the alternator or a bad ground.

I was thinking the alternator itself must be messed up. It's a good thing it happened last night, I was able to borrow a car for today/weekend, giving me 1 week to figure it out.

the alternator might have been full feilding. if the eld(in main fuse box) is bad that may cause abnormal outputs from the alternator
