currently i have a b18c1 with aem sri, dc header, and greddy exhaust in a 95 civic coupe. it's just not cutting it anymore. i was originally planning on boosting it, but living in cali with our strict cops and whatnot it would be a pain to deal with. so i revert back to NA.
this is going to be my daily driver so i want something with good midrange and a broad powerband without sacrificing topend if at all possible, it would be nice to rev to 9k but it's not a deal breaker. running on crappy 91 octane. hoping for ~230whp ~150wtq. on to the build list...
head:
portflow or rlz ported head - will make a decision when time comes
m22xx/s2pro2 with matching vavletrain - havent really made up my mind on this yet, it's gonna be one or the other
stock valves
ported i/m
66mm tb - should i go bigger?
310cc injectors
rmf/smsp/hytech header - again will make a decision when time comes
matching exhaust
block:
sleeved and bored to 85mm
micropolished and balanced ls crank
ls length rods - would eagles be ok or is it worth it to go to a lighter rod like carrillo's?
11-12:1 cr - wiseco or endyn rw
new bearings, seals, etc.
one major question i have is would it be worth it to use the ls crank or should i stick to the gsr crank? remember i want a good powerband from this thing. for tuning i'll use whatever my tuner recommends. this is going to be an ongoing project so im in no hurry. i just want the best parts available so if i have to spend the money for it, so be it. looking for feedback on what you would change, what you like or dont like. thanks for reading.

Ive seen that same build like fifty'leven million times on HT. Its your basic HT browser catalog build. There is at least 3 threads just like this one in the first 2 pages of the All Motor forum.
No offense to the OP, but Im seeing more what if/build plan/what should I do threads than tech threads in this forum.

Run your stock gsr crank, and if you're sleeving with headwork, then do the M24x. Is it going to be a problem that the SMSP/Hytech header's aren't smog legal? Also I would suggest doing aftermarket valves, since someone is gonna do the head anyway you might as well have them cut some fresh seats and get rid of those higher mileage valves. Carillo

i know this is the na forum, but if your concern is legality and your goal 230whp, i believe a greddy turbo kit is your best option, then again, unless your barred your swap is not legal either. good luck

yea the engine is already bar'ed so that's not a problem. i think i'll have an easier time convincing the guys at the smog station to pass my na engine than a turbo engine assuming it passes the sniffer.
i know a guy who had a greddy kit and they still failed him on the visual.

the regualar x or xx? i know with the xx the idle is going to be rougher but that's something i can deal with. and i was planning on going with itr intake valves and having the stock exhaust valves cleaned up.

good stuff on the barr, built n/a engines have a hard time passing, but so do boosted ones, what ever route you take, please keep us informed on if you got it to pass or not.
edit: i guess you can always detune the na build to pass the sniffer but you cant ever hide the turbo from the visual test.

and if you ever get sent to the ref with a greddy kit, the ref can try and be an *** and say "the kit was made for an integra, you dont have an integra, take it off son" god im really making myself nervous here (soon to be boosted in ca)
