Starter Won't Crank
Alright I need advice and knowledge. My starter will not crank the engine. Now heres what I've done to test it.
Replaced:
Starter
Starter cut relay
Ignition switch
Tested new parts and they are all good.
Tested the old parts and they are all good as well.
Replaced the new starter with the old one.
Wired straight from the battery to the starter solenoid:
- Helms manual says that this is the appropriate way to test the starter. When testing installed in the car the starter will click but not crank. Keep in mind that the starter has been bench tested and is good. The new starter had the same problem.
I HAVE NOT had a chance to do the same test with the starter uninstalled. I tried it once but forgot to ground it. This would prove or disprove the theory of there being some kind of mechanical interference with the flywheel.
Before being installed the engine ran and started fine. The transmission was never taken off the engine. It was only drained along with all the other fluids.
So at this point it does look like its mechanical interference at the flywheel which of course means the tranny's gotta come off. Does anyone have any ideas as to what would cause this kind of interference? Oh and btw, it shifts fine and everything when turned on so I really doubt its the clutch.
