Default Ghostly CEL & Hunting Idle...

Problems:
-Idle hunts btwn 900-1500rpm (yet no jumpy revs when regular driving)
-CEL comes on around 3500-4k, but disappears when I shut off the car and turn it back on.

Bad headgasket/ bent valves wont cause hunting idle will it?

Notes:
-Cleaned IACV
-timing marks are dead on
-tightened the idle control all the way (yet it didn't make a difference)
-Stock ecu
-Dizzy coil (new)

Thank you so much to whoever solves my problem...

Whats the check engine code? Thats your first step in finding out your problem.

my car randomly throws a cel as well, and loses power and all vtec. if i turn the ignition on and off it goes away and the car runs fine again, it started happening right after i had the cat re=installed, i checked the code and then lost my licence so im kinda in the process of forgetting about it. should probly fix that tho. this doesnt really mean much on this post so im sorry but im drunk so whatever.

Did you mess around with the throttle body? I did and I ended cleaning my map sensor and had to recalibrate the TPS and the map sensor. Hope this helps

does the problem only occur when the CEL is on? check your PCV hose on the IM and make sure it doesnt have a hole in it.
