Default Bought a new engine. Doesn't look that healthy. help me diagonse.. *tons of pics*

hey guys. I never really post here since im on cb7tuner.com

anyways i blew my 3rd f22a engine. I have a 93 accord coupe with a shitload of mods.

I bought this engine from a junkyard near me. for 290$. From the exterior it looks great. The guy said it had 90k miles on it.

After taking the tb off and Valve cover it looks fucked? i see little peices of metal and sludge kinda. Maybe its just from the motor sitting for a long time? or something?

Does anyone know? On friday im installing it. I had to save my money this week for a new clutch.

pics are below

New belts

I would say powerwash the expletive outta it then see how it looks, it doesn't look too too bad to me, but I only know a little bit about engines. It just looks like it's been in the junkyard for awhile and oil has gotten all dirty and what not

Everything looks straight, but again, judging by looks. I would check the oil from the pan. Get a magnetic oil plugs to make sure. As long as your valves seem straight and the plug comes out clean, your good. Just check for spun bearings and jacked up valves. Change the oil after about 1000 miles. Good luck!

how can i check for spun bearings? and such.

Im going to get this stuff called auto-RX also. I guess its a very good and superb engine cleaner. Im going to buy cheap oil and use it first to flush it out then put ome good oil in there

thanks again!
More responces please. Also if u have a picture of ur engine without a valve cover take a pic and let me see it thansk!

looks like a junkyard motor to me.
Just give it the checks that were said above and give it a whirl.
Be sure to clean it out really good though

lol thanks guys. yeah its outside my house. I can't do it in my driveway becuase i always leak **** on it and our driveway is new. the Parentals kill me everytime theres a oil spot. so i do it in the st. its been on jackstands for a week. I go home tommrow morning to start installing it. I hope all is well!

Any good way to clean it ... Im gonna take a towel and try to clean as much crap i can from the head then pour oil on it and put the cover on etc.

i have the tranny off now. what's the best way to install it back on. I couldnt get it lined up to go on the motor last week.

let me know!

with the set up you have I'd set the trans on the truck tail gate and bring the motor to it. Shift it around with the load leveler as needed; but before you do that consider a new rear main seal.
FWIW salvage yards NEVER have any cars with over 100k miles. LOL
The last engine swap I did a couple weeks ago the salvage yard said it had 80k miles, so how do you explain a worn out aftermarket T-belt ??

Drag a pocket magnet thru the crud under the valve cover and stick it up the oil drain hole and fish around the bottom of the pan if you have concerns.

sludge is generally a sign that the oil wasnt changed often, when that is the case i begin to get very leary of the condition of the motor, in most cases the bearings are pretty wore and the cylinder walls have a bad taper or ridge at the top, in most cases things are just plain wore out, but i hope you the best of luck

FWIW: sometimes its better not to flush the motor becasue in some cases that will break lose sludge that has turned into carbon and carbon wrecks havoc on oil pump gears and bearings.

that looks pretty normal for a motor thats been sitting for a while. just fill it with cheap detergent oil and add an engine cleaner to it, like seafoam. drive it 100 miles and change the oil and the filter.

and props for swapping the motor in the street in mass this time of year.
