Ive read previous posts and i just want to know which one is better i have a built gsr and i'm just trying to finish up the last parts. Some people prefer ati but why its not gell filled, which one help me pick. ive read old posts but i want to hear any new information available. why do people like the ati?

 

First vote here for ATI. Nothing wrong with the fluidampr, i'm just not a huge fan.


I read about some dyno testing between an ATI, fluidampr, tci rattler and a solid aluminum moroso hub for a BBC.. the tci rattler had the most hp, then the ati then the fluidampr then the solid hub...

The funny thing was that the moroso was by far the lightest yet cost a lot of power.

 

I honestly cant say which one is better. I run a Fluidampr and love it. I'm sure if I ran the ATI I would love it as well. Both are money well spent imo

Forgive my ignorance, but can you actually "feel" any difference after installing the damper?

i'm looking more for insurance of the balancing of hi revs not so much the horsepower, i just want to keep as less stress on the engine bearings thats all, is the ATi made the same for the nascar cars. one is gell filled so how bout the ati? is that gell filled or rubber i need more in depth analysis. i'm gonna buy one just which one. i just want more added insurance?

 

after reading alot about both products i would go with the ATI i am starting on my build for thi season.. It is going ot be a 85mm bore and i need all the protection against vibration as possible.. I will be getting the ERL 5 main girdle as well as the ATI harmonic balancer. It is rebuildable.. and it has been proven to work better than the fluidampr at higher rpm range where most hondas spend their life...

 

Fluidampr here... I had an ATI before and the Fluidampr somehow made the engine rev so much smoother and nicer than the ATI. It's quite noticeable on a super dense solid Dart block and spinning to 9400RPM I also went with a Fluidampr in the Supra for this reason as well because I just liked the Fluidampr better.

These harmonic balancer are always meant for added safety... I am sure there is also another group of people that swears by OEM pulleys because it was "tuned" for that engine, etc etc... Lots of gray areas for these balancers, but you simply cannot go wrong with ATI or Fluidampr.

 

I've had an Endyn fluidampr for 2000 miles and it has proven itself much nicer then the stock pulley.

I think he was asking if you can "feel" the difference in vibertaion/smoothness ect. I would be interested to know myself.

 

does the ati have fluid in it or is it rubber i know they build them for nascar and those engines go through harsh driving 200mph at a constant ATi must know what there doing i'm going to call both companys tommorrow and see who can convince me. i'm leaning more towards the ati i just saw some old posts with numbers

I have a used 1000miles fluidampr for sale

 

I use the Fluidampr, but it is a PITA to install. It's an interference fit and needs to be pressed onto the crankshaft. After ******* one of them up trying to screw it on evenly with the crank bolt, I bought the Fluidampr install kit, which costs $125, but should let me install/remove it without destroying anything.

Over a year ago, I posted that my machinist had heard that the Fluidampr testing revealed problems with the liquid silicone hardening due to heat cycling. The posting was removed, probably because I didn't have the actual test to post. I have used Fluidamprs before on Chevy engines and didn't have problems - I guess we decide for ourselves.

Talked to them at the PRI show and they said they made the pully as a cheap alternitive to the ATI/Fluidampr so that you could have an SFI pully. I asked how their product compared to the ATI and they said they would not put it in the same class as the ATI, meaning the ATI is a much better product but also costs 3 times as much.

Sorry still recovering from drinking last night. It is not crap but you get what you pay for. They made it for the racer that needs it simply to pass tech. I can not sit here and say x is better then y but if you have the money I would go with an ATI or fluidampr. If you are strapped for cash and just need it so you can pass tech and race then that might be better suited for you.

 

i am going to save for the ati peice. i need one for the long run.

 

I only sell and use Fluidampr for all our Honda and 2JZ customers.....great product and your engine will thank you for it.
BTW, If anyone's interested I have a new in box Fluidampr race pulley for sale to help a customer move due to some medical problems he needs to take care of. He will let it go for about what it cost me to sell them.
