put 5.1 quarts.
5w30 is a good weight for cold weather. Switch to 10w30 when the weather is warmer.

I thought that you were supposed to go thicker in the cold (10-w30) and thinner when it is warmer (5w-30)

Think about that. The colder it is, the slower your oil movies. The thicker an oil starts out, the slower it moves to begin with. Anyway, I use 5w30 any season

0-w20 flows great at 15 degree n.y weather.
flows even better at 90 degree n.y. weather

Honda only recommends using 5w-30 no matter what season.. So I think I'll stick with using 5w-30 all year with mobil 1 full syn :D

the better the oil the less it burns it self up.
i fould that 0-W20 burns the less.
after a long hard drive i would open the oil cap and see no smoke at all
with 5-w30 their is smoke.
(smoke meaning burning oil in the crank case from the heat and friction of a hard run engine)
i will switch to torco 5-w20

if you read the back of a mobile 1 o-w20 it states that they worked with honda to devolop this formula
its oem in the k engine. remimber that it wasn't around when they wrote the service manuel for the h22

thats strange. then I wonder why honda still would use and insist on using 5w-30 if 0w-20 is so much better..

http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/M...atoil

Refer to your owner's manual to determine the proper weight (viscosity) grade for your Honda . Your vehicle was designed to use this specific weight grade. Confirm that the weight listed on your oil's label matches this recommendation exactly before using it in your engine.

so if my h22a was specifically designed to use 5w-30. then thats what I will continue to use.

yea thanks guys we just put in another quart today running good, i use 5w-30 mobil 1 in my ls/vtec, she insists on castrol syntec in her prelude so thats what i put in, i believe in mobil 1 all the way, what is this new 0-20w i was reading up on it sounds new and very good for the vtec, since vtec demands more oil when engaged, thanks for the tips though guys

True. In Europe they actually use 0w-40 in Preludes. Yes the dealership!

yeap. I've always use the mobil1 superSyn 0w40 and i'm verry happy with it. Even back then when i was driving my old corolla with a 1,6L single cam curb engine and beating the hell out of it .Few days before i sold it i pull the head off and i was surprised about the good contition of the internals. it was a 200k (km not miles) motor and it was looking like a 20k

I've pulled the head off my 182k h22 just a week ago for a timing belt change and i was expecting a little bad shape since i've run my motor for about 5 min with almost no oil at all few months ago when my oil filter snaped and loosing my oil in seconds without me realizing anything in time... still in perfect condition.

Now i'm using a castrol syntec for a week or so, just to give it a try since my new mechanic recomended it, but i'm not too excited about it. I'm swiching back to mobil1 on my next oil change

A 20 weight oil is a bad idea, that's thinner than stock. It's used in NEWER engines where manufacturers are trying to squeeze out every last bit of fuel economy from their engines.

In contrast, we drive engines that were put on paper over 15 years ago. And I'll assure my engine adequate lubrication by using an oil more in spec (30 weight) instead of hunting for a tiny increase in milage that may or may not work with my engine's design.

Plus our engines rip through oil as-is, going thinner would only make that worse.

Directed at the OP, if you're going to be doing lots of cold weather driving get a 0w-30 or 5w-30 oil.
