What the hell is this coil in a box? part of car audio install.. help
I'll post a pic when I can, but wondering if someone knows right off the bat.
I was wiring up my power windows, and was tapping into the same switched 12V wire that my radio uses when I found this length of wire that looked unecessary.
It was a yellow wire that was bundled up and ziptied. I cut the unecessary length out of it (after checking it was only wire, and nothing else), and it connected to this little plastic box about 1"x1"x1". The wire went in one side and went out the other, and in the plastic box it connected to a copper coil.
Anyway, after my p/w install, the radio no longer works. The radio fuse in the fusebox is good, and the p/w HAVE power and work. I'm concerned somehow I may have messed something up concerning that box...
Anyone know what that might be for a headunit or possibly alarm install?

It sounds like a "choke", [noise suppressor] the yellow line is probably the HUs constant power, if it's an Alpine HU there is also a fuse inside the box?
