Default AHHHHHHHH....I dropped a piston on the ground, now a little "ding"...problem?

So I was getting all my stuff ready to send to GE and I dropped one of my JE pistons on the garage floor. Damage is not too bad, just a very shallow "ding" on the top of the piston. it is about 3/8" long. The first groove on the piston is slightly "scrunched." Is my piston ruined? Will it be ok? I don't have a digital camera...so no pics, sorry. Please respond ASAP! TIA. Thanks,

if this first groove is the top ring grove that your talking about and the impact effected any part of this grove, that piston is toast, throw it away and buy another for $100-150 or whatever one of those JEs run for

It isn't the ring groove, it is just a grove. There are 6 or 7 of them. the first ring groove is a good ~1/2" further down.

then itll be ok as long as it didnt deform piston so that where it hit would be touching cylinder,if it did or there are any rough spots on it,you could sand it smooth with like 1000 sand paper

ouch man, inside the motor is like the only place where everything has to be maticuously perfect. Id be kinda scared to run that piston, but as long as its not dent, I dont see why it wouldnt work.. Id just be afriad to take the chance, especially considering all the money u have spent on other things, I wouldnt want there to be a weak link.

Get a picture and send it to JE or GE and ask them.
Good advice they should know best.

Well, my pistons are in a box going out to GE on Thursday, so they will see it. I really hope it is ok. I will have to put a special note to check the one piston that was dropped. I really hate ******* things up. If it is broken I guess I have a real nice shinny reminder not to be stupid. Will JE sell just one piston? Any estimates on how much? pt. No. 185919 Thanks,

I got a little better piston vocab. It is not the compression ring that is smushed. It is a groove at the top of the piston. There are about 6 or 7 of them, then the compression ring is another 1/2" or so down the piston. The damage is done totally to the very very top side of the piston.

Might lose some compression in that one cylinder hehehe
no big deal
