I bought an 89 civic hatch that was supposed to have a b18a1.... but it turned out to be a torn apart d16 zc... and i have NO honda knowledge....so..any helpful hints?

WAY too much- 2500 but thats with a brand new garett t25 turbo, intercooler, and some bombass seats

The ricey seats and widebody would not have been a plus for me. That would have detracted from the value to the point where he'd probably have to give it to me cause I just wouldn't want to have to de-rice it all.

I'd pay $600 for the IC and turbo, possibly less depending on whether is is a genuine garrett and what kind of intercooler it is.

So, $600 for the IC + turbo, $100 (being generous) for a riced out civic, comes to $700 that i'd pay.

I know!...but the guy has been a buddy of mine since we were about 3 years old... and he needed some cash..so i figured i would help him out..you know?.... and i guess i just need help w/ the swap...cuz around here there is NO ONE who will even touch a honda...hickville U.S.A...so i want to build a little honda that will just walk past their big ****** bigass muscle cars and get twice the gas mileage while im doin it.

That right there is the kind of attitude that makes people not want to touch honda's in your area.

How do you know it's a ZC? I'd get your money back or at least a major refund becuase your "buddy" totally cornholed you. I paid $3300 for my '90 Si six years ago with mint interior and paint and a fresh rebuild on the engine. $2500 for what sounds like a totally busted project is a total joke.

Anyways, what kind of help do you specifically need?

 

OK...i know it was dumb...i just want some help to get it running..cuz i like the old skool hatch ALOT better than my miata maybe a completely different motor would be better?

OK, so what's wrong with the motor? What needs to be done to get it running?

 

everything...its COMPLETELY torn apart AND...heres the best part...i have no oil pan...but the block is at school getting honed cuz it had been sittin 4 a long time so it got a bit of rust goin on....if i could find an different hatch for sale around here i would just be happy doin that..but...this is south dakota..so..you know..finding a decent one for cheap is not exactly easy

OK, so get yourself a repair manual and start rebuilding. You should replace anything that is out of spec, any gaskets, water pump, timing belt, etc. Or just part it out and buy a SOHC ZC with the money you make. Sounds like fun .

 

well...my buddy wants to buy it..he has an 89 sedan that he plans to tear the motor out of...so that shouldnt be too terrifying and i could use the cash...im out of a job right now..thanks 4 the advice tho!
