Default EGR Chamber

So I believe that I may have not received the desired information because my last post had the wrong title. So maybe now someone can tell me whether any sort of gasoline comes in contact with this area. I would think it is just exhaust fumes, but I am not sure. Is there a reason someone told me that I should just block off this area?

EGR exhaust gas recirculation.

The EGR is designed to reduce Nox output by introducing exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber via the intake manifold.

The cover that you have is removable so you can clean out the passages when they get carbon build-up.

If you look into the little chamber you will see holes that go into the intake manifold runners. You would need to block those off.

EGR is a good thing just not for performance. You will need the EGR for emissions or you will fail. Not just the visual inspection but the exhaust sampling will have high Nox numbers. Which is also not good for the enviroment.

Gas should not be in there, but if you tried to start the car with the cover off gas might come up thru the holes.

What I would do is get some hondabond and seal the cover back on. Or the gasket whichever.

Hope this help's

That does help, a lot. What would be the simplest way to just block it off then? In PA we don't have the Nox check for emissions, so I don't think it would matter. They only check to make sure that the gas cap holds pressure and the check engine light is not on. Or at least where I go that is all that they do.

I guess you could tap the holes and seal them with a bolt. Or you could take the IM to a welder that welds aluminum. Or get another manifold from a y7 or 8.

I would not suggest JB weld or other glues because if the holes leak you would have a vacuum leak and have to do it all over again.

Another way would be to put the cover back on and disable the EGR valve.

You are not going to see much of a gain by doing this, by the way. Also I believe that when the ECU uses the egr it also add's fuel too.

well i was just going to use hondabond, which can't touch gasoline. so i would like to just disable this instead of buying the gasket, do you have a picture or a write up to disable this?

Well, I don't like to tell people how to disable emissions equipment. It just goes against what I do for a living...Smog tech.

I will tell you if you just unplug the EGR you will get a code.
And I will tell you that on your pic's there is a hole far left that does not lead to the runners, this is from the EGR valve. Also the tube from the exhaust to the EGR valve.
These are things to consider for you.

I just don't want to tell you what you do.
