My autometer gauge stays between 180-195 When driving and when in vtec. When i sit it starts to rise but doesn't go higher than 215 and the fan comes on. I have a civic half radiator though. So temps could vary

My track car stays fairly steady between 180 and 185, even on very hot track days in Texas. I run a Fluidyne with no fans. The gauge is a Defi D-Gauge.

230 is too hot...fan should keep the car below 215 always.

To get the most accurate reading use the sender that comes with the gauge. I have an auto meter that came with its own sender. The best place to install the sender I think is in the inlet valve right by the head where the ECT switch is. Just buy a drill and tap set that is the same size as the sender. That way it is totally independent from the stock one and u get an accurate reading. Make sure to ground it really well to. I also highly recommend to get quality gauges. I strongly stand by auto meter. The point of getting a gauge is to get accurate readings to be sure u are not hurting your motor. So spend the extra money to get a good gauge instead of a more expensive part of your motor
feel free to pm me if u have any other questions about install or nething

thanks man...i actually got the ones from advance auto...the cost a little less than the auto meter but they were just as much as the autometers..the only reason i didnt go with them were because i wanted the green background..the are named faze i think but they were 45.00 a gauge...so do i need to ground the sender unit..would anyone else suggest drilling a whole for the sender...

I had a faze oil pressure gauge and it was absolute ****. I hooked everything up and it wouldn't even come on. I really would just take the hit and go with a better gauge. The sender is grounded by bieng in contact with the motor itself.

Crappy gauge = crappy reading.

If you get a Defi gauge it will directly replace the stock temp sender without any drilling and tapping.

The Defi gauge comes with a sender almost identical to the OEM temp sender. It's already pre-wired into the Defi wiring, so you just unscrew the OEM temp sender, screw in the Defi sender, and plug it in.

Seriously. I have 3 BF gauges and every time I opened one of the packages I was amazed at the level of detail and the quality of the accessories they give you to install everything. Defi = teh winn4r
