Tires for my 2000 civic
Alright, I have a 2000 civic si that I bought some 16 inch rims with a 45 offset and I want to get some 215/45/16's, but am having a hard time finding a very good selection. What I am wondering is if a 225/45/16 will fit without rubbing. This tire size has a lot more options and looks great on a 7inch rim. I don't plan on lowering it too low, maybe an inch or so. Please help me out. Thanks in advance.
proper size would be a 205/45r16 or a 215/45r16 for your car...225/45r16 is .53 taller than your stock size 195/55r15...i have the same car and i found more of a selection with the 205/45r16 than any of the other sizes...my car is lowered 1.29 inches from stock height and i run a 205/50r15 in the summer and a 195/55r15 and i have about a 1 to 1 1/2 finger cap

If you're concerned about performance, concentrate on buying better, stickier tires, rather than wider tires.
Brief recommendation:
If you care ONLY about dry traction (such as if you plan to use the same tires for autocross or an occasional track event), get the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 215/45-16. Outstanding dry traction and handling, only so-so on wet pavement, treadlife is short (10-12K miles is typical), moderate price ($95 at Vulcan).
If you want outstanding dry traction and also outstanding wet traction, and don't care about price, consider the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 in 205/45-16. Outstanding dry traction and wet traction, very good treadlife (25-40K), rather expensive ($133 at the Tire Rack).
If you also care about value (both purchase price and treadlife), get the Kumho Ecsta SPT in 205/45-16. Pretty good dry traction (not like the previous two, but still pretty good, similar to the Yoko ES100), excellent wet traction, excellent treadlife (30-45K), at a bargain price ($65).

Thanks for the good info guys. I considered the 225 just because I don't like the look of the 205 on a 7inch rim. It looks to skinny, just me. But a 215 on that same rim is just right. But I can't hardly find a tire with any treadlife on it in that size (for a decent price anyway). So this is my delima. I have coilovers so I could avoid lowering it too much, but I think it will rub when I turn.
you won't rub on 205/45r16 as long as you have the right offset on the wheel.. which would be a 40 to 45mm... tire choice as nsxtasy stated that the kumho spt would give you the longevity of the tire and as well as good traction on dry and good wet traction as well
215/40-16 is too small for a '97-00 Civic. It's almost 3 percent smaller in diameter than the stock size tires. Stick with 205/45-16 or 215/45-16.
Another tire that comes in 215/45-16 is the Dunlop Direzza DZ101. It's similar to the Kumho Ecsta SPT. So if you're looking for an inexpensive tire that lasts a long time and has decent dry performance and is very good in rain, you can get the SPT in 205/45-16, or the DZ101 in 215/45-16. The SPT is slightly better in performance (even though it's narrower), and it's a whole lot cheaper ($65 vs $115), so that's why I recommend the SPT over the DZ101.

That is too small of a tire
