supertech vs skunk2 pro series retainers
supertech makes skunk2 parts but are the retainers the same?
i am going with skunk2 pro2's and i know there is going to be some clearance issues with the valve guide/seal to retainer clearance which crower makes a retainer that is +.060" higher so theres more clearance there and you need to machine the rockers. Now skunk2 makes the retainers with more clearance from retainer to valve guide/seal but the retainer still sits at stock height. I was jus wondering if the supertech retainers were the same.

If you are using the Supertech dual valve springs, then you will need to order different valve guides/stem seals from Supertech that work with their dual spring setup. But if you are using the standard single valve spring set, then you can just re-use stock.

Also, I emailed skunk2 reference their (or whoever makes theirs) titanium retainers, and the Rep told me to expect to change them out at 20K. Just for your info bro. Good luck.

I run the Stage 1's with a pure OEM valvetrain.....~20k miles and still perfect.
Im a fan of anything SuperTech, but when I do my head again it'll be RM VT for sure.

I think the skunk2 retainer is also offset like the offset crower. It shows on their site that its supposed to be shorter than a stock retainer on the underside, but when I set it next to the stock one it looked like it was the same height. What I THINK they do is make the tapered part where the valve lock goes a little wider, causing the retainer to sit a little higher on the valve stem which is what crowers offset retainer is doing. Skunk just doesn't advertise it that way.
Thats just my opinion though, I didn't get the chance to measure anything before I sent my head out to get ported but I'll have it back this week hopefully. I can take a valve out then and compare all three.
