98-01'ers...If you have removed your OEM wing what have you done about the 3rd brake light?
starting my first DC integra project. its a 2000 gsr with a factory wing. i plan on removing it but the 3rd brake light is in the wing. there are no holes in the glass to put a 3rd brake light in like on my buddies 95 integra......what have you done? just say expletive it? flame on

I'd say the same thing just don't be suprised if you get pulled over.

Many people use some sort of other adhesive mounting method to mount an OEM light to their rear window. Another option would be to use one of the universal lights made for this sort of application: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autop...10101
been thinking about this lately, I had my wing off for a long time. Put it back on recently due to a trunk leak. But I'm getting my wing holes shaved this week.
Has anyone ever attempted to disassemble the wing and try to use the existing leds and mount them to the back window?
btw my '95 GSR doesn't have the hole either

I am going to take mine off as soon as I get moved into a house and have a garge to store it in. I wont have a 3rd brake light either, and really don't care. But the cops aren't to hard core in my area either.

For those who are saying they don't care, or that police in their area won't notice, you should also keep in mind that the CHMSL is an important safety feature. As someone who has been involved in a rear-end collision (and my car did have a CHMSL), I prefer to provide as clear a signal as possible that I am braking. Having some inattentive driver crash into the back of your car isn't very enjoyable, believe me.
^^^^FOR SURE ABOUT THAT.. if i didnt work at a dealership i would be worried about passing state inspection....still if anyone has successfully tackled this, chime in
i usually just run from the cops, i came out on fox news once.
but seriously, i drove around 4 years wingless and never got hasseled for that. now my s2k its getting a bys wing so the 3rd brake light gots to go.

Again, this isn't just a question of legality or being hassled by police. It's about retaining an important safety feature.

I agree with you, I had mine off for a long time with only 2 break lights. I just prefer the the person behind me can clearly see I'm braking.
I wonder in a scenario where you only have 2 brake lights. If someone does rear end you and its their fault. I wonder if the blame can be turned onto you for not having a third brake light.

I don't think so, because my truck didn't come with a 3rd brake light from the factory. #rd brake lights were not manatory till a certain year. So I don't see how they can hold a 2000 integra liable for getting rear ended because they didn't have a 3rd brake light but not hold my 1988 Toyota p/u liable when they never made them with a 3rd brake light.

for 94-01 Intgras, GSRs come with the 3rd brake light in the wing, so it doesn't have the 2 holes in the window that the RS,SE,LS,GS (DC4)and Type R have.
If you want an OEM look, find a brake light from a DC4 or Type R and use mounting tape on it. 3m makes a really strong one, you should be able to find it at Home Depot.
2nd option, remove the LED from the spoiler (i've done this). Using the same type of mounting tape, you can put it anywhere you want on the window. I've seen other members mount it low on the window, I myself mounted it high, in the dot matrix area. It still shins through when illuminated. I'll post a picture if i remember taking one.
oh, clear adhesive mounting tape or something. you may have to reapply every 18 months or so.

I drilled two wholes through the shelf back there and bolted (plastic bolts) it to the back shelf... I will post pictures if you would like after my car gets out of the body shop.

The difference, as you've pointed out, is that the truck did not originally come with the light, while the Integra did.

Not doubting you or trying to argue, but I think in court if you had a lawyer you would get off.
Another thing you could do is get a different hatch with a 3rd brake light and swap it out. Then you have the OEM look.

Honestly, I'm not sure how the situation would end up from a legal standoint. It's quite possible that the missing lamp would go unnoticed. My point was simply that it is an important safety feature, and one that became a federal requirement on cars beginning in 1986 (trucks started in 1994).

I understand, sadly I don't think it is that important with the way people drive now a days. most people don't pay any attention so I don't think 3 brake lights help more than 2 half the time. But yes it is a good safety option to have on a vehicle. I would like to swap to an ITR spoiler eventually and will probably swap out for an ITR hatch as well for the 3rd brake light.
i've seen ppl "trade" hatches for an LS or RS that is the same color, that way the Ls guy gets a wing he wants and you don't
some very poor pictures from 4 years ago maybe. but in daylight, you really don't know its there until you hit the brakes.
^^^ That would work too. But all the LS's I know have spoilers and 3rd brake lights. Those bastards get the best of both worlds. and by LS I mean RS,LS,GS
