Hey guys, I'm having spark issues and I was wondering if someone could tell me which coils/ignitors are interchangable with the TD44 distributor from my OBD1 JDM B16A so I could avoid buying new parts till I troubleshoot exactly what is wrong (I can get parts out of spare USDM dizzys my friends have to test with if the parts are interchangable).

you can use a civic one.. you can test them at autozone too.. do that before you start looking for a new one

Btw, I'm in Alberta, Canada. So we don't have autozone.

 

yes.. both are the same as a civic one.. fastest way to test it pull a complete distributor off a friends car and test it... and did you check the fuse?

 

The car still runs, it just sputters at random times (usually when the motor is hot) but fuel pressure is fine as far as i can tell and i dont think the fuel pump is cutting out at all, injectors are fine (tried them in a friends car for a couple days). When its really bad power feels like it disappears and if i hit the gas and floor it the revs stay the same and dont climb, or you can feel it missing). Replaced the plugs, sparkplug wires, and dizzy cap and rotor to no avail.

Well doesnt it have to be another bseries vtec dizzy to work? TD44 or whatever the GSR one was (I forget the number)?

you can even test with a ls one.. one bolt just to hold it

 

Good to know. I think all the dizzys they have kciking around are off blown D-series motors though.

 

Any specific d-series ones that work or dont work? I might just take a trip to pcik your part and swap the coil and ignitor into my dizzy.

Ive been comparing part numbers and from what I can tell, the coils from 92-00 are the same on all the civic/teg dizzys.

Edit: Thanks again gezzuzz, is that for the coil or just the igniter? ^^ I must have been typing that as you responded.


Edit 2: By comparing part numbers it looks like the igniter from 96-00 Civics and 95-97 Del Sol VTECs are the same part numbers, but everything else isnt. Ofcourse this doesn't necessarily mean others wont work.
If anyone knows definitively, please let me know.
(And I don't mean any disrespect to you gezzuzz, I'm just not sure if you specifically meant the coil, igniter, or both). Thank you for your help!

Edit 3: It looks like I'll have to open my dizzy to see for sure which igniter is in there (I know my motor is from a 92-95 DelSol VTEC in japan but im not sure which year specifically). Looking at part numbers it looks like 93 and prior distributors use a different igniter than 94-2000 Civics/DelSols. I figured they would have been the same all through the generation but I guess not. Someone please correct me if this is incorrect.
