Apexi N1 w/ silencer
I am used to the sound of it (without the silener), it's not a problem (no headache so far). My friends told me from outside, it's LOUD. But it's much quieter from the inside of the car than outside. I've heard many exhausts that are much louder than Apexi N1 (ex: Spoon N1, Tanabe RM)
also, in high rpm, the noise from the N1 is covered by the aem cai IMO.

APEXi says that with silencer installed, it brings the noise down 7 decibals. I've had the N1 catback on my Si for a year and half, WITHOUT using the silencer. Using the silencer sucks, defeats the purpose of the exhaust. Luckily, I've never been pulled over due to exhaust. My friend says from outside, sounds like a motorcycle...

it sounds like ***-on-steroids w/o the silencer!
yup those silencers make it sound like ***... i just keep it in cuz i'd rather not be deaf.it sounds like ***-on-steroids w/o the silencer!
Get over it, or buy a Buick
on a 2nd gen RX-7 Turbo its around 95 decible, shooting up around 96 or 97 being revved up to 5000 rpm. With silencer its probably high 80's close to 90. I have a meter, so if anyone nearby wants a reading, come to one of my meets and i can check it out for you.
I ask because I got a ticket saying it was too loud, when I had the silencer off... the law in California in regards to exhausts says they can't exceed 95db, so are you saying if I don't rev past 5k it is legal?

How did the cop determine that it was louder than 95dB? I have a meter if you want to see how loud it really is.
technically its legal if its 95 decibles or less, but cops dont have a decible meter and so their decible meter is there ears... and i dont think human ears are that sophisticated to be able to tell the difference. Some will let something iffy go and some will not let something iffy go... then some will say a stock exhaust is too loud. we have laws to make sure our rights are kept in tact, but instead these laws have turned on us.
BTW... my friend didnt bother fighting it... he just paid the ticket when he got it. Your best bet... take it to a cop WITH SILENCER ON and try getting it signed off. Find a male officer... who seems cool... and hope for the best. Worst case scenario, he wont sign and then you can worry about fighting it.

Why wouldn't he/she sign the ticket off with the silencer attached? That is what I did, and my ticket was signed off no problem..

So whats the problem? you got the ticket signed off, right???
Yeah I got the ticket signed off, I just don't like driving with the silencer on.. So if I test it, and it comes out to be lower than 95db, I will take the silencer off.
Yeah, and I also figured out that the cop who cited me, only works the 7pm-7am shifts: Thursday-Sunday... And I rarely, if ever, am in that city during those hours... Thank God school gets out at 2:30pm!!!

(I'd know because I am now running the silencer, due to a fine from the police).
