Default Leaking Radiator (DOHC ZC)

it sprung a leak lastnight. not too big so some of that rad sealer stuff should fix it for the time being but the hole is about halfway down the radiator so the system must be atleast half empty. even after filling the coolant/water tank it was still heating up when driving yet the tank was full to the max? i dont get that? do i need to fill the radiator itself then fill the coolant/water tank?

also what other honda radiators will fit in place of mine?

and last but not least how do you properly bleed the air out of the system?

if the radiator is low yes you have to fill the rad itself, the tank is just an overflow

Any stock EF radiator should fit, however; the difference is in the upper radiator hose. As for bleeding the system, if I recall correctly, you turn the heat on all the way, let the car run and keep topping off the coolant? I may be wrong though.

ok that would explain why it started running hot after filling the tank. never filled the rad. unfortunately with it being a sunday nowhere local is open that sells that rad weld radiator leak sealer. one of my buddies said putting an egg in the rad would seal it but i dont really want to try that lol

i thought the trick was to turn on the heat and let the air bubble out just wanted to be sure.

The egg trick is an emergency fix only...

I've had this happen a few times, now I carry "alumaseal" in my glovebox. Its a tube of this silver powder about the size of a roll of quarters. Believe me, its a freakin lifesaver.

Anywho, you need to crack open the coolant bleeder screw, on the front left corner of the valve cover before you fill the radiator. That will bleed the air out. If you have air locked in your coolant system, it won't matter how much coolant you put in...it wont flow, and hence, it won't cool. Autoparts stores sell this funnel type thing that you put on your radiator cap, so you can "burp" your system while letting the car idle. It works like a champ.

good luck man

On the DOHC ZC the bleeder screw is on the backside above the thermostat.
