Default rod and main bearings... help please!

I'm rebuilding my bottem end soon and i need some help with a bearing issue. I usually use honda bearings, but they are like 225 for all of em. yet i can get acl's for ALOT cheaper. My question is how do i size them? Do I just buy Std. and call it good? If anybody has ANY info or has ran these bearings before, please let me know.

I would like to know too. I see alot of people list ACLs as the bearings they used. How do you know what size? How do they hold up?

acl = green size. For my build the greens where too thick. I use oem hondas.

i bought standard size acl's as a starter kit, because they're so cheap.... after i plastigauged every single one, it turned out that they were all within factory specs. my motor was in remarkable shape when i tore it down so you may not be so lucky.

i say get the acl's, then if you find a few clearances that are out of whack, go buy those individually from honda....spend a little time, save a little money.

so far i have about 1000 miles on my build and 0 problems

and you'll be more apt to need red or pink if you're building a race engine (or for boost) because they'll give you more oil clearance.....your parts will wear - and likely fail - faster, but then again a purpose built race car shouldn't be a daily driver

hardcore engine builders will tell you "loose is fast"

my clearances are all within honda specs, accually on the tight side. MY manley rods where just on the tight side.

No, that is recipe for a spun bearing. Just use the correct bearing. Honda bearings are some of the best mass produced bearings in the world, maybe ever.

While on this topic, I have ACL's, and haven't plastiguaged it yet. The colors weren't visible when I pulled it apart, is there a size chart that would allow me to order the proper sized bearings if the ACL's don't get me within tolerance?

on a b series you use the block letters + the number on the crank to give the size. Lets say for main #1 you have b2 (or 2b i forget) then u goto a helms and it gives the color. It works the same for the rods also. IF you build a motor with aftermarket rods and or line bored mains. You get a random bearing and plastigauge it and go up or down as needed.
