sup guys i've got a ej8 with a y8 (all stock except for a k/n drop in filter) the problem started yesterday night. While driving back home from a friends house my car stopped accelerating. I was on the freeway and everytime i gassed it, the car would start to slow down and you could hear the motor starting to die. stopped by the side of the road and turned the car off. Turned it back on and revved it to 3k, after that the car drove fine. Today i go to start my car and it starts up and idles for 2-3 seconds then shuts down slowly. The motor sounds like it struggles and can't breathe. Everytime you start the car and rev it the car dies, so either way if you rev the motor or leave it at idle the car dies. I checked the fuel, spark, and sensors on the manifold and everything seems fine, i even plugged in a obd2 scanner and came out with nothing. The obd2 scanner didn't throw any codes or anything, it said the car passed and was fine. i'm not sure what to do anymore, i called people that i know and they can't figure it out. My last step is to tow the car to a shop which i use and see what they say. Anybody know anything?

*Update: well i decieded to go and pump 2 gallons of gas and fill the car up. Used those gasoline jugs to get the gas. Anyways, i pour it in and try starting up the car for the heck of it. Dont know how or y but the car starts up fine. I rev it to 3k and its still running. I drive it to a chevron and pump $15 worth of gas. come back and the car is still running. I forgot to mention that my car was on E. The light hasn't been on but it was right at the red point line. I mean my Empty light didnt come on or anything so i'm not sure if its becuz i couldn't get any fuel or what to the motor? With this outcome im going to bring it to a shop to get the fuel system and everything else looked at. anymore comments?

um, did you open up the filter housing and check for debris? did you check to see if someone tried to play a joke on you by putting something in your exhaust?

O2 sensor? r u getting spark at ur plugs or inbetween dizzy to wires?

 

How's the cat? Fuel Filter?

 

I think it's obvious that you're not getting sufficient gas.

I would almost say fuel pump but it's running which can exclude that.

Though I would place my money on the fuel system with those kinda results and the sudden stop instead of a progressive dying, wouldn't chalk it up to a clog in the cat or filter or anything.

EDIT:
Check your fuel pressure at the rail.

 

Check the throttle body and Idle Air Control Valve. Make sure it is clean.

 

i would deffinetly check your fuel filter and pump it it sounds like fuel starvation but if thats not the problem check your cat i kno it sounds stupid but there have been problems were your car get soo plugged up it just slows/kills the engine, but im almost positive its a fuel problem
