Default D17a frankenstein swap?

I have a 04 civic. Can a D17a Lx (non v-tec)engine have a head swap for a EX (vtec) head? if possible, what is needed to do that? change my current ECM to a ECU?

IMO, doing a lx to ex head swap is one of the best mods: ~10hp for ~$400.

you just need a head, ex ecu, vtec solenoid, and a few other misc parts.

the work is well worth it iwantspeed.

wow, you get put up to 127hp at 6500 rpm. which means you probably have 100hp normal

The EX head is a true VTEC.. not VTEC-E. The HX (D17A6) has the VTEC-E you are thinking of.

I'd much rather spend the $400 as a down payment on some Hasport mounts for a K-series.

To answer the question, i would reccommend getting a new headgasket, ARP headbolts and a VAFC2.

you CAN get a d17a2 ecu, but then u need to get it reflashed. A cheaper, and a better solution is the VAFC2, IT MUST BE A 2. This will allow u to add the vtec switch u need, and it can also MIDLY tune the engine. Also, i would think this might yeild a high C/R than a stock d17a2 making a few more HP( im not talking a lot but a few). Just like a d16a6 + z6 head makes more hp than a stock z6.

k20 would obviously a better place to spend the $$, but u might not have the $5000+ u will need to make it happen. I think this would be a reasonable 2nd place.

this is as Mini Me as it gets.

A mini me is a z6/y8 head on a a6 or non-vtec block. this is the EXACT same. it is 100% a frank

The D17a2 IS Vtec-E. Oh, and this is a Mini-Me swap, not a Frank.

Wrong... SOHC Vtec will never be TRUE Vtec... K20A's I-Vtec is TRUE Vtec

Wrong.... SOHC VTEC is GENERALLY the same as i-VTEC if you think about it.... only on the intake side.... no VTEC on the exhaust side...

SOHC VTEC operates the SAME WAY as DOHC VTEC, just on one side of the engine cycle, and with only one camshaft.

I got to drive a B18Cx equipped Integra GSR last night at the track.... it made me want to buy an old school DOHC Honda... TRUE VTEC.

Sound and power... power rolled in real nice, wasn't too quick to set in though... it was nice.
