Default Help- Broken exhaust mani stud

I've searched and read a lot, still can't get it out. Tried vice grips and a stud extractor. I can't get a drill in there to tap it. Unless anyone knows of a really small drill. Any help will be awesome

Yeah, this would be easy if my motor was out of my car. But it's still in it.

Black and Decker makes some fairly small drills. We got my dad one for Christmas one year. It's about the size of my hand. I don't know if it's powerful enough to do the job, but they also make more powerful drills that have shorter heads on them.

I would try to get a nut to screw down on the threads, as far down as possible. Then I would take another nut and screw it down on top of it. Then I would torque the two nuts against each other. Then I would use the bottom nut and unscrew the stud out of the hole.

You can also try using a grinder to notch a grove in the end of the stud and use a screw driver to pull it out. Or use a grinder to trim down the sides so that a small closed end wrench will grab it a back it out.

I had a stud like that, my vice grips backed it right out.

can't get two nuts on the stud =/ and I'll try the notch and screw diver thing but there's hardly any room for the screw driver

you can also try and make it square kinda to get a better grip with the vise grips, and use some pb blaster

you could try welding a nut onto the stud and then use a wrench.

I've heard that one, but I'd have to take it to a shop for that.

Same problem all u need to do is get a pair of plyers un screw the broken stud and take it to a autozone kragen or auto store to get a new one no need to remove head thats what i did. there just screwed in to the head.

alright go to autozone or napa (whatever you have) and they should have a stud removal tool. it snaps onto a 3/8 wrench and it comes out like butter. use an extension and an 1/2 to 3/8 adapter with a three foot breaker bar if it doesnt wanna move! good luck

and if that doesn't work and you still need to get a drill to get it out. you can go to lowes and get the 90 degree adapter for the drill. i had the same problem but my stud was broke flush with the head and couldn't get the drill to fit because the motor was in the car so i went to lowe's and found the 90 degree drill adapter.

How good are the teeth on your visegrips? I have had similiar issues and a good set of visegrips plus adjusting it so that it took everything I had to close them has worked everytime. I have also tried it with a cheap worn pair of visegrips and it just slips.

vise grips should work fine too. they've just gotta be long so you can get good leverage. they cost as much though as the stud remover so whichever one you can get to easier.

If the stud remover that 1badteg suggested doesn't work i'll get the 90 degree thing for the drill. Shyboi was your broken stud on the far right like mine? It's real tight in there. I bought this drill that was made to be at 90* and it wouldnt fit with the drill bit on it. Hopefully the other stud remover will work =/

mine was broken on the far left, like the link above posted. looking at the picture with your hand. I don't think the 90 degree adapter will work either. unless you shorten the drill bit.
