Maaco Paint Job - Highest cost job.. Any good?
Im getting my accord painted and my full mugen lip kit put on in march, we went to maaco since all the body shops around my area said they were too backed up to do it until like June, past the beginning of the show season. They did an estimate, with the blue metallic paint I want, and to spray my HOK silver mini flake, fix some of my dings, and stuff It came to be 2300$. They said it's a lifetime warranty on the paint no matter what.
What do you guys thinnk?
or
Thanks Justin

If the car is prepped properly, the paint is high quality, you specify how many layers of paint and clear coat you want (and you obviously don't that crap that has the paint and clear mixed together already), the guy knows what he's doing, etc., then it could possibly turn out okay. But to be honest, I don't trust anything that has to do with Maaco.
DON"T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you know what's good for ya. I know nothing about paint, but all i can say is i had a paint job done by maaco a feww years ago (insurance accident) and they fucked it up. THE END
I worked at rhino linings for a few years and we wouldn't put our warranty on anything with a macco paint job..Poeple would say "nah, I got the 'good' one"... then we'd see them a few months later with their bedliner peeling off with their 'good' paintjob stuck to the back of it...
Honestly, i think that if you get the macco 'Signature' paint service than you will be fine, i was looking to do this to my car over the summer as well and i can find nothing wrong with this level of work. Even my friend whose family owns a very reputable collision repair shop in town says that they do good work.
I might add that the quality of work depends on the person painting, do your reasearch and you should be good

The service im getting is the signature service that's why it's coming out to be close to 2500 dollars. I understand you guys I thank you for your opinions, but with that lifetime warranty backing up the paint job, NO MATTER WHAT, the guy said, which Ill make him write that in words, than I think Im going to go for it...
You guys think electric blue with silver flake will look good on an accord?
Thanks very much once again... Justin

Like I said, it all depends on who (as in, the individual painter, not company) is doing the work. See my previous post for what I mean.
After having his Prelude keyed by his ex, one of my good friends had the "signature" paint job done by Maaco. The finish looked "decent" at best, "okay" at the very least. But 1 year later, the paint around the wheel wells was chipping badly, half of the paint on the front bumper had completely peeled off, and the hood was just horrible... This is just one of the reasons why I don't trust the ones in my area. Yours may be totally different.
I think that color is kind of a hit or miss with people, at least on Accords. I'm personally not a fan of it, but I know plenty of other people that would love it.

Sorry, forgot to reply to this:

Around here, some of the privately-owned are the best. Other than that, Apollo is the only company/franchise/whatever that does good work.

my buddy got his LS with ITR front end painted Championship White at maaco but prepped the work himself and it came out decent for the price its held up fine now for like half a yr now. a little orange peel here and there but hey you get you pay for.
^^^ Exactly. Most people that I've seen (online, not in person) that had decent paint jobs from Maaco did all the prepping themselves. I'm not paint expert, but that's supposed to be one of the most critical steps in painting.
So your saying that by paying the extra money, letting the person who is going to paint the car prep it, that you will get a better paint job in the end? makes sense to me.
No, prepping it yourself and having them do it turns out the best results, or if you personally know the person doing the painting. I had a friend who recently had his done and it turned out fine, they did like a mid-grade one and there's a bit of overspray here and there but nothing bad.
I also just had another friend quit maaco - he used to do the prep/paint and i can personally vouch for his work, it's hit or miss, anyone can sand a car, and anyone can paint a car, it just may not look good. He's now working in a private business that goes to dealerships and does bodywork/touchup to cars in their shops. They've got like a mobile trailer with everything in it

I paint at my job, and do the prep work as well. If you do the prep work yourself at least you know everything is done right, or to your liking. If you leave it up to someone else who knows. As far as painting its all about the time they put into the job, if they have to paint a lot of cars they might pass ur car through the "good enough" department and send it on its way where as a private shop would take the time to make sure all steps of painting were blemish free. 2500 is alot of money for an ok paint job.
I agree with you about the 2500 for a decent paint job. I don't know I guess we'll see how it turns out in March, I'll post pictures, but I have to be honest I'm 18 and spending alot of money and if it's not done right, my mom will flip **** x 7.
I told them my car is going to be used at shows, and they're doing the engine bay, door jambs and stuff, and this will be with a vertical door car too. I just hope there's not much over spray and it doesn't peel right away.
I'm a little worried but well I just want it to look unique and turn out good.
Thanks for all the opinions and comments.
So what do you guys think about the blue with silver flake?? Only one reply to that question. Thank you
Justin

Yeah, I phrased my last post poorly. When the owners of the cars did the prepping themselves (and knew what they were doing) the paint job turned out pretty decent. But never, never use the paint that has the clear mixed with it. It will not look good, no matter what you do.
I've heard it can be good deal if you do all the bondo-ing and prep work yourself and just have them shoot color.
BTW $2100-$2500 is nothing to paint a whole car.
Most body shops at $48 and hour + materials + tax = $6-$7k to paint a whole car
You talk about the "show season"
If this is a show car, I don't know if I would taking a chance with Maaco.

yeah, that's a good estimate for a paintjob that you'd want to be proud of. although if you know a painter who does side jobs that's the best way you can pull it off.
But if you're looking for a economy complete job, Maaco is okay. although a patch job, their paint doesn't match that well and I've never seen one of their painters blend a job worth a damn. and be willing to take it back about 4 or five times to get it right.
but if you want a good quality paint job that won't break the bank, look for a shop that uses Nason paints(cheaper line of Dupont paints).
good luck if you do decide to go to maaco, especially if you want to be proud of your car.

Yeah I guess you're right. Its not like it has to be perfect but I want to take first at a few shows. I got second last year with my stock paint at a MD show with 200 other cars. I partially think it was just because of how I presented. And anyone who pays 6k dollars for a paint job is nuts. I mean for a 10 year old car like mine anyways, that probably isnt going to last but another 5 years without a swap, which I want the h22 anyways...

i think thats a good deal because it has the lifetime warranty.. i herd alot of bad things about maaco but i doesnt depends on the company really depends how good the guy who painting it is... i painted my car at a local shop in my city and i paint about 3800, they did a good *** job painting it in and out... i had it painted carizzma candy apple red **** was stunning... but after 2 weeks i painted i got into a accident and i had it painted at a sucky *** shop with unexperience painters which couldnt get the colors to match... now 1 side of my car doesnt has that metallic candy apple look to it after the paint started to cure...so i suggest u find some past customers to tell u about their experience at that maaco u going to..because ur car can look good after the paint jobs done but wen it cure that metallic shine can disappear if he did a bad job...oh yeah the 3800 hundred included my body kit too
