subwoofers affect performance?
ok well i plan i getting 2 12" subwoofers. they wiegh around 10-13 lbs. each. the box iself is probably about 20 lbs. amp is about 5 lbs. what do you guys think another 45-50 lbs. do to my performance and gas mileage?
It's a passenger car, a person weighs assumming they're average build like 150-180lbs? so do you honestly think having 50 lbs extra all the time if it's just you in there would affect it? I think you'll be ok

I'd be worried about sapping power from the car if you run too much electrical crap, i'd just make sure I had a good battery and everything. It's possible to get lighter weight components if you look around enough but it won't hurt too bad unless you cram 3-4 people in the car, them plus the audio will probably make you hate your life
Why 2 12's though, instead of just 1?

You could go on a diet and even it out
One of my friends told me once he was going to do weight reduction for his car. Then he told me he was heading to the gym.

i had an 10'' alpine type R runing ond a small amp from the stock deck and i slammed pretty loud my times down the track were about the same but i took out the spare tire and both trunk treys!bytw my 10'' in the spec box weighed about 40 - 50 lbs! hope dis helps!
Yes definitely make sure you understand the properties that make a subwoofer good. That includes sub box design, magnet, speaker size, amp RMS, etc. I'd personally have 1 good 12" in a box that allowed for tight bass, and an amp that delivered good power matched with the sub for best effect rather than a trunk rattling pair of 12's.
Exactly!
My choice would be a JL 12W3V3 and JL 250/1 amp to power it if you wanna cut down on weight. a JL 12W6V2 with a JL 500/1 will be alot better, but you're adding more weight with that setup.

Ever look at the Boston SPG555 sub? Positives are : 1000W RMS (only 600W RMS on the Kickers), doesnt take up as much room as 2 12" subs, weighs less. Q-logic makes a custom ported box specifically for that sub. I think it's the same price as the two Kicker's as well.
Just food for thought

im about to put in an eclipse titanium 12" sub that with the box weighs about 75-85lbs. the sub has a 200oz magnet, and the box is heavy as all hell. so im not too concerned about losing a little bit of power to enjoy my day to day drive. go with what works for u. if u put em in, and u can ACTUALLY feel the loss of power, then take em out. simple.
