ok... i can put my shifter into 1st and 2nd and 3.. all the gears... once it's in gear i can wobble it around and it's like if it were to be in 1st i could put it where it LOOKS like it's in 3rd gear but still in first... why is it so loose? any way to tighten it up or to get some sort of bushings? i just ordered short throw shifter so when i go to install it... anything i can do to keep this from being so wobbly as well???

Shifter bushings are the most likely culprit.

 

i looked on ebay and stuff i cant find any shifter bushings... where should i look... that are a good pirce...

I have them, the red kind (non-lubricating). They work just jim-dandy.

 

Sounds like you have a stock shifter. Bushings will not cause that much play.


The shift mechanism inside tranny uses a torque spring to return it to center from the left-right motions.

This spring will wear out and become weak. It mostly happens on the center to 1-2 movement because that is the most used.

Put on you new shifter and see if still happens. If is does, just the spring inside.

Before buying anything check to see if the bolt holding the shifter is lose. Go under the car behind the cat and you can see the bottom of the shifter. There is bolt that connects the shifter to the linkage. If that comes lose then the shifter will have play.

that could be the problem too...my buddies hatch was like this and it was because of the bitch pin...

I think it is the bitch pin also. I have the same darn problem... right now i'm changing the shifter bushing by energy suspension to see if it helps... If it doesnt solve it then ill have to fix the bitch pin.


(sorrie didn't mean to just took over ur thread) since we're on the topic... just wondering when u guys install the shifter bushing.. do you have to grease it up? If yes then what kind of grease should i use and do i grease both bushings? Thanks

No grease needed..

 

theres the energy suspensions which work really well. i have those on mines. stiff as hell, but i love it!!
