*If you have or have had a VORTECH supercharger - please post here! Class action lawsuit anyone?
*moderators, please move to GDD if this thread isn't fitting here.*
Here's the deal: I have a 98 itr here at the house with a vortech supercharger and water cooler setup on it.
Well..... the blower started making a **** ton of noise, so I disconnected the belt to make sure it was the blower. Yup. Apparently the teeth in the drive or a bearing ate itself. So I call Vortech to see about repairs on this thing. No deal.
They will only allow you to send it in for them to repair. They won't sell you a rebuild kit. AND it's $2k to repair (apparently they've now changed over to a different drive kit and will have to make their older blowers compatible with the new parts, yadda yadda yadda...)
So basically, their blowers eat themselves up - cost a **** ton of $ in the first place, and when they do break, they force you to spend $2k to repair the POS!!!11
I've heard of others having this same problem, so I want to see if anyone else out there is having this same problem. This kit has been a PITA since day one!
Please post up if you've had problems with the drive or bearings in your vortech supercharger.

Happened to mine. Take it to a machine shop, a local shop fixed mine for $400.
I agree though, for what you pay- they do f*ck you around. If I could do it over again, I would have went with a turbocharger....

Class action lawsuit? What a joke. For one, Vortech probably hasn't sold enough Honda units to make a class action suit possible, but it's not illegal for them to not offer a rebuild kit or to tell you that they have changed the drive setup on their superchargers and that you're going to have to buy a new one.
And the reason that Vortech, nor any centrifugal supercharger company, will not let you try and rebuild a head unit yourself is because it is much different from a turbo, there are lots of tolerances and backlash to setup between gears, shafts, and the case. In all likelyhood you'd probably just end up ******* it up.

it's not uncommon for people to file a suit when a mfr sells a product that doesn't perform like it should.
are you familiar with the legal process, or have any experience in this field?
we need only to prove that there is a significant percentage of failures due to a defect or design flaw.
why wouldn't i be able to rebuild a unit myself? is there some secret mojo internal to a blower that is more complicated than building a motor or transmission?

Its also not uncommon for businesses to beat w/o much effort in such cases when said product was used improperly when it carried an explicid warning against such use. I'm going to guess the probability is very high that the kit, instructions, or SC itself had some sort of warning to the effect of "for off road use only". If your car has plates, they can probably supina a few people to indicate you drove it on some public road.
Long story short, products don't last forever, and you're rarely covered when there's a warning against such use, unless its a drug and people die. I do feel bad for you though, not only do you get a all the problems turbos and SC's have but none of the true benifits, it also took a **** on you.

there was a recall on the spline set ups and they went to a three dowel pin set up a few years ago.

You can file a lawsuit. Run down to your clerks office and do it.
Anyway, had no issues with mine. Runs very quiet.

A guy brought down a 00 si with one of these not too long ago. Even just idling it was loud as F*CK. Clearly something wrong with it. The guy did'nt seem to notice too much or care but it was trashed.
ima sucker too
sitting here with a damaged shaft from snapping where the 2 shafts spline together, then surface where the bearings sit, is damaged, so it isnt going to line up again..
garbage..
