I heard there was a way to cut out the baffles on the stock airbox for rsx type s. If anyone knows please fill me in. Oh is the 02-04 airbox the same as 05-06.

Maybe a couple horsepower. Not much but it does sound alot better and its free just takes some time. U can also do alot more removal then the link says.

Couple the gutted stock box with a duct for the intake tube and you've got a budget version of the Mugen box.

 

isnt the comptech icebox basically the same deal? just am ampty box with a hi flow airfilter?

You can improve the modified stock airbox even further by putting some heat barrier tape on the underside of the box.

Not really, because it gets its air from underneath the engine bay. Which, really, isn't as cool as they would like it to be, either.

Best place for fresh air, IMO, is right behind the grille, above -- or in front of -- the radiator. The Mugen box's scoop sits there, as does the Vision carbon fiber duct and several other homemade ducts I've seen posted here & there.

 

my v2 cold air actually sits right at the bottom close to the back of the engine bay ... kind of next to the header ... and its pretty cold back there ... true the best place may be right behind the grill or in the fender but it doesnt mean that the bottom of the engine bay is not as cold ...

 

Temperature checks have been done, and a SRI (or the V2) draws the hottest air in normal driving. Just as you said, the heat from the header is right there.

There's a Comptech Icebox owner on ephatch that recently checked his intake temps, and it goes up about 20-25 degrees at its intended location. He took off the Comptech snorkel and added some tubing of his own that led down to where a CAI would go, and saw quite an improvement.

CAI's (the ones that go behind the bumper) do quite well. Best intake temps, though -- the closest to ambient air -- come from setups just like how I mentioned, with a scoop drawing air from the grille area.
