I was topping off my oil today and under the oil cap is chocolate milky looking. Does this automatically mean my head gasket is bad? Approx. how many hours labor am i looking at to have it replaced?

 

either that or you've got a cracked head (or both).

your lookin at a few days downtime, if you ant to do it right. which entails having the head checked for cracks/warpage.

As far as the actual head gsket replacement, have you ever done anything like this before or what?
If yohavnt and just have a helms, I'd say 10-15 hours. If you knwo what yoru doin, you could do it in a day.

 

sounds like you have some condensation in your oil. do a compression test and we can tell you more.

lol no he doesnt have a cracked head...He wouldnt be able to drive that car at all if his head was cracked, the car would overheat within a matter of a few mins (like 2-5)

 

more than likely if you leave in a cold climate it is normal, if you are not overheating or your oil is not milky on the dipstick your okay, and make sure you coolant level stays ok, if your are noticing coolant lost you probaly have a bad head gasket, im not saying its impossible but cracking a head is hard to do to a honda motor unless you are abusing it.

 

Yeah it is below 0 here most days this time of year. I never noticed any milky substance on the dipstick, just on the underside of the oil cap. I'll do a compression test in the next few days anyway.

 

dont waste your time and effort its just cold weather climate. theres nothing you can do to prevent it and it wont hurt anything, as was mentioned before keep an eye on all fluids you should be fine
