I'd like to know how my car could've been broken into without a trace?!?!
I got in my car and started driving to work early yesterday morning (6 am). Something seemed strange, because the inside of my car was darker than usual, so I reached down to turn on my stereo and realized it was gone.
Somebody broke into my car, stole my alpine deck along with the little storage area underneath it, and stole my cd case with 10 years worth of my collection (over $2000 worth of purchased music). My car was parked in my apartment complex parking lot all weekend, and I could see it from my window. Who knows what day exactly it was broken into.
The thing that bothers me is that there was nothing wrong with the car, no signs of forced entry, no broken window, keyholes are in normal condition, alarm still works. How did this person get in my car and disable the alarm? I noticed my gas tank panel was open, did the person open my hood and do something? No wires are cut, my alarm still sounds when I activiate the alarm and unlock the doors from the inside. What gives? I have a stock factory alarm system BTW on a '99 Integra. I always arm it and check to make sure the doors are locked, I have OCD, and I know for sure the doors were locked. Any ideas?

This is kind of an odd picture for a theft thread but when some of the bad guys broke into my car they carved about a 6x5 inch whole right above my acura emblem. They could reach my horn wires and just cut em so the alarm didnt sound. Other than that there was no damage to the car whatsoever. They broke an antenna off of someone elses van in the parking garage and just jimmied the lock. check the weathering strips on your windows.
weak.
Gas door was open because the expletive tard piece of ***** that broke into your car thought that the gas door handle was for the trunk. When they broke into my car they totally ripped the handle off.
they have jiggle kays that act as universal keys. they also sell police grade slim jims to the public. all they did was prob pop ur hood and disconnect the battery nd were nice enough to put the battery terminal back on???
I had my car broken into once and my alarm was never triggered (thankfully no damage was done to the vehicle).
My guess as to how they got in was pulled the window back a bit, enough to get a rod in to pop the lock open.. or just a slim-jim. How the alarm didn't go off I found out was a bad interior light switch. The switch that, when the door opens, causes the interior dome light to go on. Mine was faulty and that was where it was tapped into for the alarm so when the door was opened it didn't register at all on the alarm. Pissed me off but *meh* whatever. Got it all fixed.

I came out to my car after staying at a friends house overnight to head home. When I got into the car I noticed my cd player(stock) was sticking out about and inch from the dash. Aparently someone bailed out on an attempt to steal it but they left no visual signs of forced entry at all.
Its pretty scary how fast you can get into an integra with or without any kind of key. This is why I have my car parked where all I have to do is look out my bedroom window and there it is.Good luck man, I hope they dont come back for the rest of the car.
You should probaly be on high(er) alert for a while.

Yeah, I figured they were trying to pop the trunk, or the hood for that matter. I also thought that they might have disconnected and then reconnected the battery terminal, but I checked the terminals and they were solid tight and also it seems they were in a rush or got spooked because of the following reasons:
1. I had 3 gigantic cd cases in the car, 2 in the back seat, and the only 1 that got stolen was the one on the front seat.
2. I had about 5-10 nice beanies in the car that weren't stolen.
3. I had a box with a Dreamcast in it in the trunk with a bunch of games.
4. Also in the trunk I had a nice travel bag filled with brand new cologne that I got for Christmas.
5. The remote for the deck was in the side door pocket.
6. I had my social security card and my passport both in the glove compartment.
The only two things stolen from my car was the cd library case on the front seat and the stereo, clean job, no damage to the car at all. My weatherstripping along the windows is in questionable condition though, thats for sure. My dome light works. Odd.

Might have wedged the door with a door stop or something similar and reached in with a coathanger to hit the unlock switch. The alarm is a mystery, unless you forgot to turn it on or were too hung over to hear it j/k

My factory alarm is sketchy at best. Probaly some loose wires or somthing. I just always get a visual check on my car pretty often.

well, I think I'm going to put it behind me now. I needed to vent, and I feel much better now after I've told a few people whats happened. I honestly don't care about my deck, its a couple of hundred bucks to replace. I'm just burned about the cd's, they had sentimental value and we're accumulated over the span of many years. Oh well, its time to invest in a better security system. I have a lot of research to do.
Just from something I've had to witness my friend do is pop the hood via the cable (not wanting to go into detail, might give some low life on here and idea, and hopefully get caught and find himself enjoying the rest of his meals through a straw) but if you wanna know pm me... and then once that's open they can disconnect the battery. Only thing is, if they took the time to disconnect the battery, why would they set it up to where it wouldn't go off, and risk getting caught by re-activating it... the alarm thing really bothers me. Is it a stock alarm or aftermarket? If aftermarket might wanna turn the sensitivity up more... or if it has a knock sensor or something arm that at night?... just some suggestions.

they pulled your window out... simple! they reached under your driver side fender and pulled the hood latch cable... ya I told how to do it but so what... maybe they we get caught doing this... but those are the only two ways I can see it happening.... does your window roll up and down normal, like always? check if its lose.
couple years back some friends use to jack people's rides by shorting the electric systems by carrying a battery/cables in their back back and connecting it some where on the car... i'm not sure how they did it i never went along but they use to come back with the cars... just a thought..
there's also a magnet story, but skeptical on that one.. but those lil fkrs were pros... never left any marks..

factory alarm? If so you can go buy a code grabber off ebay for like $20 and then wait for somebody to press the lock/unlock on the factory alarm and it will give you the frequency and you can hit it up from there.
Well that last one was nonsense. But yeah there's about 10 ways to break into an integra without making a sound or leaving any trace. The 2nd gen Integras were even easier because they dont have frames around the windows. Based on the clue with your gas door, they probably used a coat hanger to pop the trunk and climbed in that way. But you can access the hood cable in the fender and under the bumper. You can slim jim the door or just press the unlock button with a coat hanger. You can pick the lock and even use the fabled master honda key trick.
It's not that hard or expensive to lock an Integra down to the point where no one could ever steal it, and if they break in, they wont be able to shut the alarm up. It's all in my FAQ.

Minus the fact that even the factory alarm goes off if you "reach" inside the car and unlock the doors with the button.

Despite popular belief some thieves actually have a straight conscious and they are going in for one thing and one thing only. Better chance of getting caught if you get greedy and start rumaging around the entire car for whatever you can find.
Anyone a fan of the Martin Lawrence movie "Blue Steak"? The part where Dave Chappelle tries to rob the convience store and Martin tells Dave, "to go straight for the cash drawer"
I'm glad to hear that they didn't grab your passport or SS Card because that could open an entirely different can of worms (identity theft)

thanks, I think it could've been much worse. My factory alarm is weird, I was playing around with it yesterday and at one point I unlocked the door from the inside and opened the door and shut it really quickly and locked the door and the alarm didn't go off, but every other time it did, sometimes with delays, other times immediately, and I've had my alarm go off before and it hasn't stopped sounding until I disarmed it. Anyway, I'm going to look up a nice alarm system, build a new cd collection and a nicer sound system as well. Thanks for all the replies.

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss.
People should use this as a lesson to never keep anything valuable in the car; don't be lazy, take it in for the night. The only thing that is in my car is a copy of registration and insurance in the glove box and gas receipts in the middle (also about $1 of change
in the ashtray).
The thieves probably looked at your VIN by your front window and got the key from the local dealership.

Amen to the write up and to all the the people to follow. If you were to read this and invest a little money and time you could rest easy. Its not hard to keep your teg. Op you just happened to be the victim of "crime of oppertunity" There is no way to stop a smash and grab. Alarm job is not to. But to deter. If you have a flashy headunit sitting there with the face on. It will be grabed
