Default why is this?

Okay so my younger brother went and bought some HX rims and he owns a '97 ex. He comes home put them on and the fronts are touching the rims. Why is this? I thought it would fit on any CIVICs, 96-00 all the same aren't they? I mean the tail lights fit pretty well cuz I bought him those same thing wouldn't it for the rims?
I know it's the size of the rotors as well as shoes pad/caliper but aren't all 96-00 civic the same? Not sure about Si. Also I was thinking unless previous owner had the brake calipers cahnge and they used something else bigger than the orginal ones. Cuz for my '95 coupe I had to get one new caliper and that one was a bit bigger than my orginal one. But anyways could use some help as to what I could do. I was thinking about sanding it down, bad idea or what? Let me know TIA

Here's some pictures of what I mean:

not positive, but with spacers u might need exptended lug nuts. Why not just use a dremel or something of that sort and shave a little bit of the caliper

you need a spacer, you can use a 5mm spacer without getting extended studs

i dont think a 5mm spacer is going to make much of a difference except giving him the required clearence

So is 5mm going to be enough for my bro to put on the rims without it scratching? As far as clearnce all around the rotor it's okay enough just not the caliper.

Assuming the wheels were fully seated in your photos, 5mm should be plenty.

you're stupid

spacers are made for function, this is the perfect scenario for using a spacer

either way works fine, grinding the caliper BRACKET doesnt hurt anything, just dont take half the metal off or anything crazy like that. its up to you if you wanna spend money on spacers.

BTW: tell your brother he can take the plastic washers off his lugnuts now that he isnt running hubcaps, just a heads up.

Incorrect on spacers.... ... All you need to do is take a angle grinder to the face of the caliper and everything will bolt up nice. I noticed this issue with my buddies cx, once I transfered the front end to all integra spindles

k. His wheels won't stick out at all. Put it this way, if he didn't tell anyone he had spacers; no one would know.

if you have a good grinder.... he probably has a dremel tool And going out to buy a good grinder would be defeating the purpose, but id still rather have a good grinder rather than spacers.
