Default What do you guys think about Comptech icebox?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting Comptech icebox and an intake for my R. I heard that it is 100% safe and will not suck up water? does anyone ever had a problem with it?

Thanks

Welcome to the year 2000

Don't drive through deep puddles and you will be fine.

I run the Icebox and I've never had a problem. We get some nasty rain here and I've driven through some big puddles without a concern.

My first CAI was a Comptech IceBox. I loved that thing !! It made decent power, it kept the engine bay OEM-looking, it was quiet, and it didn't suck up water. It is pretty good in average rain, just don't dive into every puddle in the road and you'll be fine.

NOTE: The IceBox outlived its usefullness when I did further mods on the car (cams, headwork, etc.). I now run an AEM CAI which is loud and is a definite no-drive in the rain.

I remember being one of the first to receive the icebox and yes it was late 2000.

**** I remember them just talking about this item and developing it as a prototype.

I think if the test is has consistent variables, it will still be good for comparision. It will be specific to your build but could still be used for info. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you've got the same motor and tested both intakes on the same day, shouldn't that be consistent enough?

So post it up !

that's exactly what i did...i picked up a used icebox, almost new spoon filter and oem intake arm and im in the process of selling my AEM CAI w/ bypass valve...

from the butt dyno it seems that the icebox is making more power and has a deep sound to it...

If you are strictly looking for power, the icebox is not the way to go. On our dyno, testing out some different 3" lengths with a v-stack beats everything, everytime. My when friends integra picked up huge hp and torque vs his icebox, he took it off and put it up for sale the same night!

Do people daily drive with velocity stacks? I see a lot of guys at the strip running them, is it safe to daily?

you can put a filter on the end, doesnt really affect power.

I have velocity stack (BPI) on my AEM 3" CAI for quite some time, and it works great.

It picked up 6whp peak and quite a bit all over the place. Dynoed back to back...
