what size tires should i go with on a 17 inch rim..
i wanted to get new rims for my type s.. im about to order them.. im pretty sure they are 17x7 .. should i stick the stock 215 45 17 or go with a 215 40 17 ??
what do you guys think???
i also wanted to get a top name brand tire too.. if that matters in this case...

I would stick with 215/45/17 or 225/45/17 ... I'm running 225/45/17 on a 2006 Type S rim (17x7) right now with Falken Azenis RT-615 tires ... I highly recommend them!
215/40/17 overall diameter would be too small IMO ...

i agree, 215/45 is a great size for the type s. i have a set of yokahama es100 and i love them. a lot more grip than stock, and they have a directional tread patern, and there is a lip built in to protect the rim.
225 will fit on a 17x7 rim ... but would probably fit a little better on a 17x7.5. The sidewalls are a little thick and I think you will get better performance (turn-in, response, etc) with a 215 tire. If you want an example of how a 225 tire looks ... see below.

225 is a wider tire and is available in more compound choices.
It is a slightly taller tire, but it isn't that much so.
