90 crx dx 5spd engine hmm noise (wierd)
I have this noise that appeared last week the easiest way to put it is that around 60mph to about 80mph. The noise is pretty constant deff sounds engine related around those listed speeds I get a hmmm pause hmmm pause off and on about every couple seconds or so (easiest way to describe it is to think of somebody hmm'ng with a pause every second or so and thats the noise I have like a low hmm and dont really hear much besides those mph. From what I can tell not at all during lower speeds at idle the engine idles perfectly had valve adjustment around the same time set the intake @ .007 and exhaust @ .009 rechecked them over the weekend and even had a buddy recheck my work. The car starts right up and drives perfectly fine new plugs not burning any oil really and gives no impression of something wrong besides this wierd hum thats constant and exactly the same everytime and sounds like a rotational hmm. The noise is pretty loud also and can be heard over the radio at low volumes and its driving me crazy. Stock D15 with nothing done to it the axles all look good tires have been rotated even though its not really that kind of tire related noise which I have had in the past on my civic.
Its hard to imagine but like I said if you just hmm to yourself with your mouth closed thats what the noise sounds like just with a pause every second or two
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
So everyone start hmm'ng to themselves and help me figure this out
Thanx
**UPDATED***well after checking to see if any play in either whell and there is none I am leaning away from wheel bearing. I notice on the way to work today that when in 5th gear between 60-80mph youy get that hmm but when you downshift to 4th there is none and then back to 5th and there it is again so I think it may be trans related anyone have any ideas unsure of anything ever being done to the trans but the car has 210,000+ on it

x2 definitely.
x2 definitely.
never had 1 go bad so not quite sure what it would sound like - just know it is very pronounced between 70-80mph and not really much at other speeds and I know when you rev the engine at idle or if its not moving it makes no noise.

i think i read on here once you get strange whining noises in 5th (or all gears for this matter, just at 5th first) when you are low on transmission fluid. try swapping in some Honda MTF. gl

Yea I tried that and it still does it and just for the hell of it did a compression test on the motor and it came out about 215 across the board. I have a 90-91 si tranny that I think im just going to swap into it with a new clutch kit and see what happens because at this point Im clueless.
