Default Blinking S light/ 90 Accord

90 Accord LX, few minutes after start the Sport/ winter light on the dash (bottom right) starts blinking, turning the car off and restart makes it go away but it comes back after few minutes. Also the Speedometer stops working when that light starts blinking, comes back and goes again. Turning the car off and on doesn't solve the Speedometer problem.
Car has 125K miles, got it used, miles may not be accurate if this problem was around a while before me.
Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Also the alternator burned over the weekend, paid $300.00 for a new one installed. Is that a lot?

Thanks to you all and happy new year.
Peace.

The most common cause of your problem is the VSS on top of the differential.
You can check the codes by using the service check connection [link below] The 'S' light will flash a code.

What is VSS? Is it safer to take the car to local mechanic or to the dealer?
Thanks

Vehicle Speed Sensor.
If you have a trustworthy independent TECHNICIAN take it to them; This isn't a very hard job at all.
Most people replace them by themselves.
