Default Type-r LSD install

Hey guys,

Just picked up a Type-r LSD on ebay and it doesn't come with bearings.
I have a '94 Y80 transmission. Any idea whether I need tapered rollers, or ball bearings?
If it doesn't matter, which do you prefer?
I'd like to get these before I do the install to save time.

Thanks

Use the ball bearings. The thrust clearance is easier to set using those bearings.

91005-P80-E31 is the part number for the bearings. Use an 80mm shim.

The only difficult part is not knowing which shim that you will need until the differential is installed. (This would apply to the tapered roller bearings as well.) I had the entire array of shims on hand to minimize my downtime.

I need to hit you up when I don't have a particular thickness. I always seem to be around the size that I need.

I sold the remainder of the set to another HT member about two years ago. What is bad is that those shims are consedered special order, so you cannot return them to the dealer.

Yeah, I know. I've got a whole drawer full of them, but never in the size that I need at the time. Certain letters are more popular than others.
